To those who create new Strains and Hybrids, what thought process goes in to naming your newly created strain?
Do you use a combination of the two strains names used in the cross, wait until you see the traits of the strain being created and name it after it's looks, smell or taste?

I don't know how fruitful my efforts will be but, I am combining three strains in the hope of creating a unique strain. I am stymied as to what I should call it.

Currently the mother which is bearing the seeds for my project is a Mazar I Sherif Indica.
I painted one bud with Nepalese landrace and another with Ethiopian landrace.
I plan on growing out the two crosses and breeding them together which would eventually become a combination of Mazar x Nepali x Ethiopian

Any and ALL suggestions would be welcome on naming this future strain.

One idea I have been thinking about is simply listing the # of each landrace's Latitude location.

Mazar I Sherif is @ 36 ~ Nepal is @ 28 ~ Ethiopia is @ 9

M36 x N28 x E9

You can give it to me and I'll call it "mine". ;-)

Seriously, be creative. Look at all of the strain names that are out there now. I like the names based on the plants medicinal effect. Whatever name you chose, you should probably include the words "couch lock". Those are some heavy stains. LOL

I say take all the time u wer goin to take thinkin of the name n put it into the selection of your parent stock

From your hard work of good selections a great hybrid will come out and you'll probly end up knowing exactly wat to call it because its so great

How about Maznepopian for a final name?

I personally use both ways to pick names,if a combination of the P1's sounds good i use that or if it doesn't i'll wait to smell what aromas/flavours are produced then go from there.

when I name strains, I tend to find things that I am passionate about

ALA Zombie Virus. I am a huge fan of anything zombie, and the effect it has on you it was a no brainer

just write the parents name down in front of you and stare at them, you will come up with something

LOL !!!

Yeah, that is where my problem originates ;>}
Growing up, pot had no names it just came in a baggie and either was good bad or OK.
Today everything has a name, even the strains that came about by accident !

I don't know.. when i look at seeds I like to see the genetic markup listed, people say that a lot of the elite cuts out there were grown from old sensi seeds. people just slapped their names on it...

but your idea about the latitude is cool, I'm not much of a marketer, the question to ask is who are you trying to sell these to?

naming new strains.....

naming new strains.....

.....we are seeking the unfertilized female flowers, i don't understand why folks name strains after men ( Jack Herer, Willie Nelson and Ed Rosenthal Super Bud) . Mandala came up with a great name for 8 Miles High. i name my strains after a good song or a fine woman. Dr. Atomic Northern Lights mom x White Widow dad is Sugar Mountain. NL5/Blueberry x same White Widow dad is Marissa Brown Sugar.

Good luck with the breeding:)
At the moment you don't really know where the plant will lead you right? If you have a plan for what you want to achieve then you have a working title - when she tells you then you have a name:)

I like buddah's suggestion of: Lat 9/28/36 or 9x28x36 as a working title.
