Hi Gypsy, nice to see, you, but under the circumstances, maybe not so much :D

As to Gerts claim you let the mods run wild, i just wanted to clarify that there are no mods posting in this thread to my knowledge, other than the administrator, (and then that last mod post just slipped in there too) who just posted. Bubbleman is the moderator of this forum.

Hi bonecarver_OG, thank you, I love this saying too, as I remember they said it came from Finland.
This cat should be more accurate while working with butane :hotbounce !

jump - hehe :D

its sad when a discussion/thread gets completelly trashed, and in the first place the thread was not about propane anyway.

propane is more dangerous to work with than butane. its more volatile and explosive. propane also is in general loaded with mer-captans because of its domestic use and explosion risk since propane usually is stored in big tanks. needless to say the explosion risk is far less with using small tubes of butane, and thats why purified lighter gas has less mercaptans.

if anyone is in doubt, just smell the gas before you start. its that simple. butane and propane for cooking etc will have a VERY strong smell, also cheap lighter gas (for example chinese import) is pretty much same stuff. if the gas smells bad dont use it.

camping gas has also quite a lot of mercaptans in it, and on top its a butane/propane mix, and its not particularly purified. anybody who ever gone camping knows this.

so basiclly i cant see any point besides absolute greed to use propane, just to save money. not even for BIG setups. also if a recirculating system is used (i dont use that!) the butane will get recycled and there is little loss of invested money in gas.

but still - searching on google for mercaptan-free lighter gas doesnt give a lot of results. if anybody is better at googleing, please post some links if you find it :D i want to read more :D

peace!

:D
