Best Reflector?

I am planning to buy a new reflector and wanted to see some advice on which is the best and powerful reflector. I am looking at 4 models at the moment. I heard the hydro farm radiant with it smooth surface it gives a better reflect. Then there is the Sun System Super Sun. I heard the small design make the light more concertrated downward. Well on the their catalog they claim to be the brightest hood on the market. But the design on the Hydrofarm Daystar is pretty similar. I wonder will it do the same thing. And my final one on the list is the Sun System Yield Master II. I was wondering the size of the reflector will cover more area but the light will not be as strong as the Super Sun. The Yield Master II price is 25 percent cheaper than Super Sun. There must be a reason becasuse the Yield Master is twice the size of Super Sun. I am doing a flood and drain table with rockwool and I was hoping the hood will cover the best in a 4X4 area.

I hear the SS2 is a good reflector

I have a cool tube and it's got to be the worst reflector

Thanks for the help guys. That's why I love this site. Everyone is so helpful. My hydro store did a test on it. They said the same thing. I like the size of the Super Sun. It is a good compact size to carry up your apartment. You can carry 3 Super Sun instead of 1 regular reflector. But it's small size is hard to believe it is the brightest and cover the area.

ss2 is the best IMO (super sun 2)

the magnum xxl has wider coverage less of a center hotspot but is also 4x the size and 2x the price

I just recently purchased a HydroFarm Radiant and it is really nice. I was worried about it having a smooth reflective surface, but there have been no hot spots and I can tell how much better it's reflective surface is since it is side by side with my other reflector which is a Lumenaire 6. The Lumenaire is not a bad reflector, but nowhere near the light output of the radiant. They are both on identical Quantum ballasts with the same SolarMax 600watt bulb.
I too would like to give the give that Magnum XXL a try. It looks nice and they shure are proud of it with the price.

Best with no regard for price: Magnum XXXL. (I think they put the XXX in there just to catch your eye. :D)

Best bang for your buck: Sun System 2.

I'm using a Radiant AC hood with a 1000w and a Daystar AC with a 400w. I have used many different hoods over the years, from non-air cooler open faced reflectors to the air cooled Radiant hoods. When they first came out with the first Radiant hood model I up graded to air cooled hoods and I will not go back to using open faced hoods. The Daystar and Radiant hoods are something that you cant go wrong with picking out one of them as your new hood, and you can get them in a 6" or 8" flange size. the more air you can move the cooler your grow will be.

for open reflectors its the Adjust a wings with no doubt but the diamond shold come close also
regarding air cooled ones i cant say since ive never tried any of them

I try the Radiant a while back. I had nothing to compare it with. But I do have a problem with turning yellowing in veg. I had 4 of them in 1 room. When all 4 were turn on they turn yellow, but I turn 2 off they seem to get better. I have none of that yellowing problem when I was flowering them. I was wondering is that from the mirror reflector burn?

Could you put two bulbs in a hood? I mean if you wanted to mix cmh and hps spectrums could you throw two bulbs in one hood?

My buddy have the same problem with his radiant hood. But they seem not to have problem with the pebbles dented hood. The hood must work well if they sell alot of it. That was my first guess. Heat stress from the mirror reflect from the radiant. Can we be right? If we are the hood sucks then.

read the thread that Freezerboy linked. The SuperSun 2 was the champ up until last month when the Magnum XXXL nosed it out by 4 or 5 % in light distribution. I am partial to the Magnum XXXL's as I have 6 and love them and especially the fact that they run so cool I can lower the hoods to within inches of the tops with no problem. Closer is better for your buds. they are Big and heavy, but run cooler to the touch then other hoods and take less air to keep 'em that way. Look at the thread linked above and see how Pico graphed out the light distribution and see what light footprint and price works for you. No one can tell you what to use in your unique situation. Can't really go wrong with either and one may be better for your application then the other.

i run a yieldmaster 2 just from trying different reflectors. The ss2 isnt that great as the footprint was a little narrow for my 1000w'er.

I like the yieldmaster 2
It gives the most even coverage, and has a nice double parabolic, much like the adjustawings except its air cooled!
