Think this test tube will work for BHO?

an ethanol wash wont leach terpenes originally acquired using butane, and most likely propane is not bad at leaching them as well.

overall, your method, is frankly wack. but enjoy, by all means, carry on.

My bho tasted like the essence of lemons.
No skunk at all.
Very yellow.
Tacky at body temp and solid/crystally at 70F.

I will have pictures of some more here in a few days.

Hi Capn, congratulations! Lemon smell is the very good sign. I know they even add lemonene into extract to power it's high.

As for discussion above I've heard they say - "A Specialist doesn't need to think, what is it for while he is A Specialist ?"

im interested in your propane extraction....do you have references?

I have done bho for years just getting back into it with a new tube....I can tell you that if you use cheap butane you will get low quality oil, I NEVER use any butane for camping/ect the mercaptans are not good and you can find 1x 2x refined butane(without mercaptans) for about the same price....if you use the most expensive and most refined butane you can find(example: vector 5x refined) it usually leaves no taste/smell/residue in the bho as long as you know how to purge it right, and even then imo it need to oxidize for a while, if you do it right you come out with amber/honey looking oil that is hard to a touch but turns to a liquid as soon as flame touches. this is my experience with bho, never tried qwiso, only other hash methods ive done is bubblebags, so...

I am interested in your presentation of your propane extraction....:D

Great! Awesome timing as I've my trimming is now done drying! I'll start a new thread!

Another thing is that no matter how refined the butane is, it will still always contain mercaptans because it is required for all scentless gasses sold as fuel. Think about it mercaptans are added, they arent filtered out in the refinement, if anything they would probaly be added afterwards.

Technical grade butane is another story as its used for its solvency, but then your talking big bucks, but then again you would have pharmaceutical grade oil.:D

WTF!!???

WTF!!???

AGAIN:
The most characteristic property of thiols are their odor. The human nose can detect the presence of these compounds at levels of about 0.02 ppb (that is parts per billion!). These compounds are found for instance in the spray of skunks, or as breakdown products during the digestion of asparagus. Mercaptans are also added to butane for domestic applications, so that consumers can smell whenever they have a gas leak (butane itself is odorless).

So you're claiming ronson and 'gucci' butane (vector, king, lucienne) are equivalent, especially regarding mercaptan content? You're credibility is lost if so.

And when you get 'gucci' butane for near wholesale prices it's not bad at all. Unless you're broke or make wayyy too much BHO...which is impossible.

I agree sleestak, I KNOW there is a difference between quality and cheap butane, I've tasted it! :yoinks:

you are wrong. its not true what you say. i have done lots of research on the subject of mercaptans in butane and know a fair bit about it. most of the hi quality brands are mercaptan free. however, almost all readily available propane sources do contain mercaptans, as its used in household applications in much larger bulk. this was my original point, and how this whole stupidfest got started as well. i dont think there is an easy way to remove the mercaptans from an oil sample, but i am not sure on that, nor care to find out, so i will stick to clean solvent sources.

well I guess I'll be asking gypsy this but I guess this is a place that erases people's post who prove others wrong.

this is heartbreaking as I was ready to become a lifelong member.

I refuse to do it until my post is put back.

period just because I made you look like an ass doesnt give you the right to delete it.

ALSO, IF THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION IS DELETED IN THE NAME OF GETTING FLAMED, JUST SO INFERIOR HERESY CAN BE THE ONLY WORD, THAN THIS IS JUST A LAME PLACE TO BE

THAN POST YOUR RESOURCES INSTEAD OF YOUR OPINION

All ordorless gas fuels must have mercaptans! Just look it up!

It took me two seconds to find ONE article: http://everything2.com/title/mercaptan

Not sure you're old enough to be a member here buddy.

Posts from a site which "is a collection of user-submitted writings about, well, pretty much everything" (everything2.com statement) doesn't constitute 'scientific evidence' or 'proof'. Whatever you're trying to prove has now been lost to your credibility. Maybe do some actual research and come back with a well-reasoned argument.

right, right, then, well you should have some uprightness of character, stick to your values, and leave this "lame place" full of heretics.

If i get no answer from any admins then I will leave, I dont trust a site that lets their mods run wild, theres too much sensitive info.

If you get wholesale butane, great job man. Your lucky though as most people I know cant find even wholesale prices that beat propane, again if you have a gas fuel with no scent, it MUST have mercaptans in it.

Food and tech grade= no mercaptans

Fuel=mercaptans

I'd post why this is, but I'll just get told I'm childish, or that I'm wrong for no reason, or my favorite your referancesa are wrong......

This is true but its created through a chemical reaction by adding hydrogen sufide to the CH3 molecule replacing the "pure" OH molecule to get water as the byproduct....so You can use propane and any of the product ending in the suffix -ane but i dont know why you would want to use somthing other than butane though its prolly more stable then propane when useing it in such ways.....Propane requires almost 4x the amount of pressure to keep it stable and using it as the extracting source would prolly end up in very bad :2cents::2cents:
