I have just never grown from seed. but no, they are the same strain supposedly. they came from the same seed pack. but for all I know I could still be growing two males and wasting my effing time

dont waste your time. clone them and put them in 12/12 and keep any females. make sure to mark which clone came from which plant so you'll know which one is female.

but they aren't currently big enough to do the cloning. I need 21 cuts for my unit, but I want to clone more than 21 just-in-case. so I think starting this friday they will be on 12/12. as of today I think they will go to 18/6 just to get them ready.... guess I have some reading to do on re-vegging a flowering plant. I really hope I am not wasting time, men are not worth the wait :)

if there not big enough to clone then they will take a week or so before they show sex.

be patient but once they get big enough clone from the lower branches.

I am cutting and cloning the whole thing. so as soon as the count is good, they will go. just need to sex them first

I have also had to cut some lower ones off the plant, they were dry and curled compared to the rest, so I figured I would do the plant a favor and trim them. once they were gone they seemed to jump up in size over 48 hours

the stubby plant has me worried. again I have never grown from seed in soil so I am in uncharted territory right now.

the leaves don't look the best on the shorter one. with my luck they are both males anyways

I am wondering you guys's and gals's thoughts on this

I always train my plants, and I noticed there was a good lst article on the forums here that is excellent. anyways, I am thinking about putting chicken wire around the outside of my 7 vertical tubes there (there is about 2feet in the center, box is 3x3) but yet still some room on the outside. I'm a pretty skinny gal and I can slide in on either side (just to give you an idea that there is still room) and train my plants to grow around it. IT, being the whole octagon pvc thing. this way my plants can get like 10 feet tall, but they are all spiraled around the entire thing. I will still run the 2x1000hps in the center, but if I do something like this I am considering supplementing with long floros in the corner to keep the shady spots down, since the plants will be growing around the vertical pipes, there will be some shade back there.

either that, or put chicken wire in the center and constantly tie them down as they grow. they will basically grow horizontally, but I understand that isnt ideal, there will be an upward spiraling thing going on there in either scenerio.

going on the outside makes even more use of my small box but I will definitely need some supplemented lighting which is obvious not as intense as the hps's in the center. growing on the inside drops the extra lights, and still makes good use of the space but puts them closer to the hot lights in the center. if chicken wire is used on the inside, I can fit a good size co2 bottle in either back corner. and I do want a sort of direct-injection co2 system, which I will get into later

A traditional 'vertical' grow usually would be similar to the following:

1 or two lights mounted vertically (duh) but also cooltubed. if the lights are in series they can both be cooltubed in series which is nice.

around the lights , up to the elevation that you feel the plants will finish, about a 1'-6" radius chickenwire or mesh 'cage' (about 3'-0" across the top. This way the plants can not grow against the light but rather will grow against the mesh and stay the optimal distance from the bulb (about 18" for a 1000w).

/----\
| o |
\----/

looking downward at the bulb from above, the perimeter is the mesh and the o is the bulb.

the goal in a vertical is full light utilization. what you want by the time you are mid flower or so is to be almost unable to see light coming thru the canopy from outside.

a good example of what i am talking about is here: http://icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=28746

ya that is essentially what I would like to do, scrog them around a cage. do the maintenance to tie them down and train them properly. it's all in the small details

karynne, i think your girls (positive thinking) look good.

the little one looks like h2o got on them, no worries just be carefull.

there is a thread where a guy uses a 250 hps vetr scrog. he has an extremely small footprint growing 4 plants in a square. his screens are placed to one side of the pot and all 4 screens are placed touching at the edges, making a screen box that the light is inside.

i read so many threads i cant remember what user it was but ill try and find it.

it would be cool to see a vert scrog shaped like DNA, a double helix where the plants are spiriling around and up.

good luck

I suppose we will call this "flowering day one" or sexing day one I dunno... hoping for the best, this is how big they got. the little one didn't even give me anything clonable

day 7 flowering. I can't totally tell yet

that little one isn't really showing signs of flowering at all. I'm not sure what happened. the tall one grew another 6 inches, the little one nothing.

so assuming the big one is female, the little one will be yanked out and discarded and I'll veg the big one a little more.

now I am positive I have two females. yay, beat the 50-50 odds! could have been both males and I would have been sad :(

however, I am happy :)

but bad news is on saturday morning my landlord is doing something and needs access to the house. meaning the whole thing is gonna have to come down over night, and for a two hour period. need to stash my box so it doesn't look like anything going on in there (comes apart in four MDF pieces, which I can stack and make look like tables) but I think for the plant I am gonna wrap a big ass garbage bag over it and store it in the car or something.

anticipating this "inspection" or whatever, my lighting schedule has been changed a little each day. he is expected to show up in the morning and be done roughly two hours before the lights are supposed to come on (in a perfect world).

I'm gonna have to tear down the whole box and hopefully have it set back up within the two hours the plant is expecting light in. this is already forcing it out of flowering so I dont want my timing to be too screwed up with something like that. plants look SUPER healthy though, only thing I noticed is the fan leaves, the big stem is red-ish but none of the other stems.

in any case wish me luck. its a good thing I didnt have 21 plants circling my box, or it would be a different story
