Advanced harvesting tips?

Hey guys and gals,

I'm about to harvest my ak47 tomorrow!:woohoo:

Heres my questions:

-Is it better to dry the whole plant upside down or is it better to cut em up and hang each nug individually?

-Should i set a fan blowing air over the plants directly while they dry or ambient on the side?

Thanks in advance yo, peace.

cut the plants into several branches. i cut 5 plants, while plants were still in dirt, and it was a huge pain in the ass. the whole reason why i did it was to show the amount of nugget grown from a 220w t5ho system. it got me dizzy from time to time trying to be careful and while cutting the leavest the buds would bounce back and forth quick and combined with the smell it was quite the process.

for drying it i would use a closet and hang branches on cloths hangers and have a fan at the bottom moving air around but not on the drying buds.

good luck!

I cut, trim and hang one stem at a time. Is it better? I find it easier.

I think it is way easier and also keeps you from bashing the plant about too much, keep it all in one piece. I read recently an explanation of why you should remove the shade leaves straight away, then leave shake trim on till it is dry. Cannot for the life of me remember where, but that is how I have done it for years.

If it is personal stash, I leave trim leaf on, clean the bud as and when I smoke it, that way the bud is as undamaged as possible, all trics virgin, terpenes unruptured.

what was the jest of the explanation regarding the shade leaves? are shade leaves fan leaves?

so i just harvested, hung em up one branch at a time.

it's real dry where I live so drying should go quick, kinda worried about drying too fast, any tips on that?

vaping bowls of trim, cheers...

kay so what about this explanation about removing fan leaves?

I have been racking my brains since I posted that..... almost certainy was on here, IIRC someone posted up an idea about how Chlorophyll migrates back into them during drying, would be pretty easy to do a side by side test. Drying like this I amost never get the green taste from fresh buds, but I also dry fairly quick, stuff left lying around in dank/humid rooms goes a bit "composty" IMO, quicker dried stuff tastes great, despite the commonly held belief that longer is better. The tastiest crop of a SuperSkunk clone we ran years ago was done by a guy who dried in 4 days flat with some heat, oscillators and extraction full on.

I keep plants in one piece, always. Remove fan/shade leaves and hang to dry, then, once dry, trim off the buds and shake/trim leaves over a virgin bin liner, that way as little as possible dust & rubbish enters the Ice o Lator, just pure frosty trim leaf.

i know a guy who told me dry in the dark because the plant material keeps growing(on a small scale) while it's cut off and thought of as dead. Some sort of reactions are continuing to happen and mayhap effect taste/dryness etc..

dont know if this is correct or not though. im just about to harvest my first

It takes several days for the plant to actually 'die' after cutting

I leave the entire plant intact, fan leaves and all. try it both ways and i bet you a jillion dollars you notice a quality difference. takes longer to dry, for sure, but you always gain by waiting when growing and processing herb.

i trim when the leaves crunch but don't turn to dust, and the stems kink but dont break. as soon as you put it in a container of some sort, its going to wet up again so keep burping the jars for the first week or so.

and this works better or the same as the aforementioned sort of agreed upon status quo of harvesting?

i only ask because CC says the opposite, and others...i am bambuzzled.

try different things for yourself and see what works for you in your conditions. not everyone has the space to hang stinky trees upside down for a week. i cant really control the humidity [so a rainy day or a foggy morning sets me back] in my drying space, so maybe the guys that can, get even better quality.

IIRC chlorophyl is in chloroblasten inside the individual cell. The cells don't move, so the explanation doesn't make sense?

True, that is why I put "IIRC"...I have searched History and cannot see it... forgive me, it was just another reason I had noticed that agreed with the way I I do it.

However, I am really looking forward to not collecting my "jillion dollars" from Wait...What?... cos I would really like him to be right !... going to try that one next harvest, thanks.
