House & Garden - Aqua Flakes or Hydro

I have a question. I have a drain to waste system of 5 gal DWC buckets with air pumps to the roots. I change the water and nutes weekly or as needed.
H & G reps told me that since I use air to my roots, it is considered a "recirculating system", even though the water never circulates, and as such, I should use Aqua Flakes instead of the Hydro line.

Any House & Garden users have any thoughts as to what to use in a system such as mine.

I talked with the guys up north that are using it similarly to what you are and they are using the flakes with excellent results.
