Hi ya'll!

I didn't think this one up, but I love it for cleverness and it was shared freely with me by a patient, so I will do the same.

Here is an extraction column made out of a spent butane can!

Just goes to show that cannabis stoners think outside the box.

omfg, you gota be shitting me.... I have this same butane can lol.. and I've been trying to ghetto rig one for a while and it never occured to me...

I'd love to see some shots of that being used!!!

It's Sun Butane right? Is it hash worthy?

How'd they get the top out? Drill a hole and sand it out?

i've used a butane can too, but from what i have seen using extraction tubes that wide in diameter is not as efficient. takes more butane to fully leach material in a wider diameter tube.

I didn't save any pictures of him using it at the time and the opportunity is long gone now.

I have never used Sun Butane and haven't researched it.

Since I cook in alcohol afterwards anyway, and get a medical discount on 72 can packs of 10 oz 4x Lucienne, that is what I use.

He grabbed hold of the top with a pair of needle nose pliers and ripped it out. It is just roll formed into place.

HMK is correct, I've noticed the same thing. I used a few different things, including the good ol' stainless baster, til I finally got a okief tube. I love it, considering buying one of the 2 or 3 tube models.

Hashmasta-Kut, I'm going to pick up a bell/Ti pad combo from AquaTech, I saw it and shit my pants, I've been looking for something similar to your honey oil rig for a long time now. Thanks for coming up with the design. My days of hookah coals are almost over! :woohoo:

Yeah, good point! A 2" diameter can is stretching it for that short a column with nothing to spread the discharge stream. It is a ghetto rig for times that is the best option.

I personally use a 1 1/2" Pyrex tube with a coffee filter wadded up and jammed in the can end end to keep particulate from blowing back if I have to interupt the process, and it also tends to spread the stream out. One of the nice things about glass is that you can see what is happening and whether you are getting good wetting and saturation.

I only paid $25 to have a heavy wall 1 1/2" X 20" column made, but I notice locally that they are now readily available from 1 1/2" X 12" to 24", with the 24" only about $75.

I have a feeling this taco sauce model is gona rock for small runs. Pretty small diameter too, bout an inch.

Either that, or doing what I did with the coke bottle and drilling a hole through the bottom and having the bho come out where the cap should go.

The cap end is very tapered though, so i may have to cut a bit of the top off.

Is't it going to be a bitch to load? or unload for that matter as well? Stuffing your buds/ trim into a tiny hole like that?

was thinking of making a funnel and using a dowel to smash it in.

It may be a bitch, your right lol. If i have to cut the top off, so be it.

Just curious is all, I have a stainless steel one I made out of a (Churchill) cigar tube. What about getting it out? Or were you thinking of it being a one run tube? Seems like too much work for that.

If I were going to use a (skinny) bottle, I would probably cut the bottom of the bottle off and drill a hole in the lid for the butane injection.

You not only have to get the plant material in, unless it is a throw away extraction column, you have to get it out afterwards for the next run.

You are also going to get atmospheric humidity ice on the filter and want it as large an area as the diameter of the tube allows for the best flow.

Two layers of coffee filter with four of five tight rubber band wraps to cover the end of a glass column after loading, has held any pressure that I have developed, so I can't see why it wouldn't work.

As HK noted, you don't get complete leaching of the material with too fat a column, because the butane typically doesn't spread out far enough fast enough, or in sufficient volume.

Cap'n, lol, there is no doubt, you are a harbor freight man! :D I bought a nice pencil torch there the other day for less than 2 bucks, works great to instantly vaporize oil on a Volcano oil pad I put into a large bong bowl. It took a shit, so I got a replacement and bought an extra. So far, so good. Fill 'er up with some Vector, and take some AWESOME tasting hits! I think this method is probably the best next to HMK's vape, which is just beyond awesome! 90 bucks is a little pricey, (Aqualab stocks them) but for the level of craftsmanship, the high quality materials used, and the overall ease of use makes it worth every penny. I'll bet the titanium pad is one of the more expensive components in the rig, and I'm sure welding titanium to stainless steel wire takes a special welder. Overall, 90 bucks is cheap for it, IMHO.

If you want to do a smaller run, look for a stainless steel turkey baster, I found one locally at a bar and hotel supply. Or may try a smaller Colibri can?

HMK, whats your take on their version of your rig? I'm sure you're glad to have something readymade for those who are asking you to make them one. ;)

I think i've found a suitable glass jar, that used to contain spices.

It's about 4inches tall, 1 inch wide opening, and inside diamater of about and 1.25inchs.

Heres a pic.

i think the titanium, which isn't pure, but is an alloy with aluminum and vanadium or something like that, is too thin as well as not being pure. Also i heard the guy from the weed report had his melt on him. the weld or something just melted i think, LOL.

the titanium pad is worth about 25c on one of those rigs at most, in my experienced estimate.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you source pure Ti?

It's not welded, the stainless wire is wrapped around the ti pad. Mine came in yesterday. I doubt any melting is happening I used a propane torch not a sissy butane one and got that pad cherry. Found out the trick is to NOT get it that hot. There are little slots cut into the pad that they wrap the wire around to hold it securely.

Shame is there's no divot in the middle of the pad like some showed, it's completely flat. Is Ti brittle? Could I heat that fucker up and punch it in the middle a little to make a divot? or will it snap?
