Wine Fridge Medical Cab

Found a great little project at a local swap meet the other day. I am going to try a little larger cab and this wine fridge is it. The major advantage here is the perfect door seal and the already drilled through the glass lock. I will of course black out the front window somehow.

The inside measures 21" wide X 20" deep X 30" tall. I really wanted 24X24X36 but this will do.

The plan is single plant DWC with 250 HPS, It's not going to be done anytime soon but I will post pics as I modify it for the grow.

Picked it up for $30 what do you think??

Yes, I have access to an A/C recovery machine and the R134-A will be disposed of properly. I plan to gut the fridge of the cooling components to make room for a sump and other equipment.

omg. I can't wait to see what you do with this bro, I'm sure you won't disappoint.

..when you black out the window, make sure to put you reflective surface on the inside of the cab...rather then, say...putting mylar on the outside, making the light bounce through the glass, off the mylar, then back through the glass again to the plants. I don't know why I even said all that. You're far smarter then me and I'm sure you'll have it all worked out in no time.

:lurk:

i love it mate, but a 250 is pretty hot, you should try a 150w first then see if the area has the capabilitys

a 150 will still produce nice buds, and im sure 2 55watt pls would acompany the light decently :) add some more plant specific wavelengths in there

I was originally thinking of a 150 HID with 2 X 55w PL-L's but I already have a 250 HPS mag ballast. I might just go CMH in that case and won't need the spectrum from the PL-L's. I also have more than enough fan power to keep a 250 cool. I agree a 150 HPS would produce fine buds in there but that cab is nearly 4 sq feet and that's ideal coverage for 250w. Nothing is set in stone yet, we will see, I might go 150 + PL-L's.

Swear we have the same train of thought, I looked at these when I picked up my fridge like Melkors!
Personally I think you could easily get a 150 or 250 watt CMH in that fridge!
I have a 100 in mine and its short and thinner and I have no cool tube or separating of any kind! She never gets over 80 even when the closet I have it in hits 103.
Myself knowing your Acrylic work I would love to see you do a simple top feed fogger set up..
man for 30 bucks you scored big time! All the ones I looked at were 150 and up used

You can black out the glass with a couple of layers of black paint followed by a couple layers of flat white to make the inside bright. If you don't like how it turns out scrape it off.

this is going to f@cking kick ass im subscribed man. il be keeping a very close eye on this build. you said that you have more than enough fan power to keep your 250 cool. my question is what kind of fan are you useing? nice find on the wine fridge. are you going to be building your sump for this build also?

I'd love to see you make use of the chiller in it within your hardware set up.

Anybody can gut. :)

That's great news about cooling CMH in a small space, as far as another fogger goes, I am going to make this one DWC for ease of maintenance. I am working too much right now to maintain two fogger grows, they are very high maintenance.

The only deal better than that is if it came full of wine.

Indeed!! full of wine would have been a plus. Funny I was about to pay $95 for another PC case like the aero machine is in. $30 for a much larger space seemed to make sense even without the wine..

Can you leave it as a functioning fridge for cooling the light?

I could leave it functioning, I tested it and it does work and gets quite chilly in there. It has 1/8 HP compressor. I'm not sure if there would be any advantage to having it functional unless I was going to seal it and run Co2.

we need freezerboy in here

We certainly do, where is Freezerboy?

Anybody can gut.

The compressor takes a huge chunk out of the bottom area I had planned for the sump, The only possible advantage I can see is if I can lay the back panel down and set an aluminum sump on it and use the fridge portion to cool the res.

As far as cooling a 250, I have boxes of high power server fans and if I can't make any of them work, I have a 4" vortex, and a 6" vortex that would run that cab at ambient for sure.

I may be building a custom sump, my buddy is a welder and offered his services to build a sump out of stainless so I may take him up on it.

I haven't decided the next move yet, It comes down to the level of stealth I want from it. There is a very good chance it will live in the garage so stealth might not be too important.

I will get stoned tonight, and stare at it for some time to come up with the next step, opinions are welcome...

I got the shelves gutted out of the fridge so I could get a better idea of the space available.

Here is a pic of the hump for the compressor I am thinking of removing to better fit the sump. The other pic is of the built in lighting the fridge came with. wonder is a 50w CMH would run well in there lol...
