yellowing lower leaves

Alright so I started Five Different strains in FFOF about three weeks ago under Cfl the plants are about 6 inches tall (except auto flowering strain) and they seem to be doing well, the tops of the plants are green and healthy looking. but the lower leaves are yellowing, it hasnt seemed to affect the upper sets of leaves it is only the lower leaves. I have looked up problems online and none of them seem to match the description that i have. they are in solo cups with six drainage holes in the bottom watered in the mornings when the soil is dry with distilled water. If any one has any advice it would be great

thanks

Time for some nutrients they're a little hungry. Yellowing of the very bottom leaves seems pretty normal to me. maybe time for a transplant soon to. Everything sounds like your on the right track

Well from what you describe you need to do a couple things. First thing I would do is transplant into 1 gallon containers. At 6" tall they are by far ready. The reason they are yellowing on the bottom is because they have used up all the available nitrogen. Once you re-pot you should be good for about 1 week, then they will start needing nutes.

alright thank you guys for that i was kinda freaking out, but with that info it makes me feel much better i will get larger pots and start nutes shortly after. I will get some pictures as soon as I get my image gallery

Nitrogen is a mobile element which means the plant can borrow it from other areas of the plant if need be.. N is always stolen from the bottom leafs first. And, remember this look very good. This is something you want to see at the end of flowering as you start the flush.. a sign no more nutrients are in the soil and the plant starts to steal from itself again to survive. Funny how later on it's a good thing huh?

If you want to stay organic, add a bag of earth worm castings 1-0-0 to the bag of soil and some Kelp Meal 1-0-2. Lot's of Nitrogen is needed early in growth and also during the 1st few weeks of flowering to avoid tops from yellowing as pre-flowering begins. Stop heavy N at week 3.

If you prefer feeding liquids and want to stay organic, try Espoma's Bio-Tone Plus 3-0-0 loaded with N and lots of beneficial microbes & mychorrizae fungi spores and other colonizing fungi. This all works well with FFOF. Another thing I'd recommend with that particular soil is an additive designed to make all the goodies in FFOF work together and keep them avail to the plant. Earth Juice Catalyst is great for this.

good luck, this is usually an easy fix.

I was actually looking at worth worm casting today at the store i think i am just gonna start with liquid ferts tomorrow, i am glad this was a simple fix. I transplanted to 8 inch pots for the time being and placed an order for a 400 watt hps and a 6 inch vortex to get ready for the times ahead
