hello guys, i have been smoking for years and thought it might be time to try my hand at growing! so i havent started yet its the end of september and i live on the east coast... i want to do an indoor grow only 1 plant with one 27 watt fluorescent bulb 1750 lumens, is that enough light for one plant? secondly about soil would it be okay to just go out in my back yard and dig some up... im not looking for a lot of bud on my first grow hell, i dont even care about the bud i just want to get an INEXPENSIVE first grow to get a feel for things before i start a bigger grow.

so those are my two questions. Obviously there not ideal conditions but all im asking is will a plant grow under those conditions

well what i would say is that u need to think big picture here. do u want to be able to grow ur own smoke? well if the answer is yes then growing one plant will not safice. u need to grow or at least germ 6 seeds. in the even that only 1 or 2 are fems. if u get more then that ucan always donate one to a friend or grow it urself. as far as lighing is concerned u might want to go with 100w CFL's x3 great light penatration and ecen spectrums. soil well unless u go to the USGS and look up ur regin and its soil contents then i would say go buy a bag of soil, dont be cheap. if u cut corners then ull grow shwag and no one likes to smoke butthole. gl

thanks for the info bro, but i dont really care bout the bud on my first grow... im just trying to hit the ground running so when i actually do a real grow i will know what i am doing... all im asking is if this set up is enough to grow a plant through all three cycles so i can get some practice before i spend a ton of money on the real thing

maybe but if it were me i would spend the money the first time and get everything lined up to do it right. i had the same mind set u did at first and i quickly found out that it is the wrong way of thinking IMO. but u will in the end do what u want. gl

Because quantity and quality of weed is not the goal, the answer is yes. Note that outside dirt is full of ... stuff. Lacking outdoor conditions and/or predators, you may bring something "bad" into the grow that will flourish in an indoor setting causing all kinds of trouble.

Hey bro, a lil somthing to inspire you, my 1st...Like yourself I been smokin for years almost 20, I always wanted to give it a go, but figured it would be way too complicated, then this may I was passing through Vancouver, stopped in and picked up some seeds, then on my way home I stopped in another BC town and picked up a 400watt ballast and bulb, and a couple half litre jugs of nutrients and got home expecting to completely fail, on my 1st real attempt. Now you gotta understand, I'm half retarded and have zero paitence, but doing this little project has taught me, you don't need all kinds of fancy equipment and thousands of dollars (300 bux) cdn...you just need a little...passion for the plant...all the best to you!!! grow safe, tell no-one!!!

Lot's of good advice that you can take or leave ( I would take most of it) but one thing you MUST follow from nuggs' above "tell no-one" with any success you have you will of course feel a sense of pride, you will also get the urge to show your closest friends/family what a clever boy/girl you are, you must resist this like your life depends on it - it may!, people are getting desperate as the recession really bites and may turn to crime themselves, don't be someones 'get out of jail' card, or worse be the victim of a jacking because it's common knowledge you have good bud. take care, good luck with your garden.

Your not going to 'get a feel' for the plant if you do what your attempting, I started out very similarly to what you are doing, and trust me IT IS A HUGE WASTE OF TIME.

I suggest getting some cheap soil, and some more light. Go to your local homedepot and pick up a 42w.

If you only grow one plant (this is one of the factors that goes into a time waster) you could end up with a male. So grow AT LEAST two.

If you go with what your doing now, it will "grow" but you will end up with either a male or a female that will most likely die if it ever does start to flower.

What happens to a lot of first time growers (I have seen this first hand way too many times) is they do what you do, they spend months caring for their plants indoor or out and they end up with nothing, they get discouraged and never try again.

The three things you need are...

A). More light
B). Proper soil
C). More plants

Don't cut corners!!!
It is a waste of time and effort, and you won't learn much other than how not to do it.

Not an untrue statement yet. All great advice. If your going to take the time to do this why not do it right. If your going to take the time to come here and ask questions take the advice. Unless you have a compost pile and garden please don't dig up yard it's for sale in clean bags at the store a couple bucks. Use empty 3 liter bottles used 5 gal buckets etc sure skimp there but a good small light also cheap and soil are worth the couple bucks. We all spend more money on worse shit all day. You reap what you sow Good luck

one last thing, lol. How could you possibly know whats going wrong with ur shit, once it does? you have no testing equip(ph,ec) or prior knowledge. you need one of the two to be semi successful...

Trust us, this forum is full of people that have learned how not to do it, and were here to keep you from having to "reinvent the 'weed' ", so to smoke :nono: I mean speak.

This is the money you could be saving if you grow

Yes. But you're only going to get bud. (if the plant is female).

You're better off buying 4 bulbs, about 5 bucks and starting four seeds. When you get a female, you then use all 4 lights on the female(s).

You're minimum investment for a 90 day grow:

Light bulb $5.00
Potting soil $4.00
Timer $10.00
2 liter bottle $2.00

For equipment and,

38kwh at rate
45 liters of water

For utilities

As long as no one gets busted, it's well worth your time.

Good luck and sorry for the part about getting busted.

If you do go and buy some soil (like everyone is saying) just don't buy Miracle Grow. There are a few people here that back it, but for the most part I feel we all agree it's garbage. Use empty soda bottles if you don't want to buy pots. If keeping costs down is your priority the one and only thing you really should spend a few dollars on is your lights. Whether they are 10w clf or 1000w hps/mh's, don't completely skimp on the lights. Good luck.
