Growing in backyard?

I

I was wondering how safe you guys think this is, in a non medical area. Those of you that do it, how big of plants do you grow, and how close are you to neighbors?
Forgot to mention, its a fenced in yard in a rural area.

I'd like to know also.

I had a bad guerrilla experience today and almost got locked into a property and nearly got leo called on me. I smooth talked my way out with a hungover redneck.

I'm in good with all my neighbors, loan them tools, help them do things around the house, shoot the shit across the fence. I would like to have a privacy fence up before putting anything out there though, for sure.

My lot is a little less than 1/2 an acre. The houses are pretty close together, maybe 20 feet.

Is it worth the risk?

Always and only depends on how comfortable you feel about it. Sure residential how busy wooded or semi wooded lots, fences, any cover, any choppers, own ,rent ,kids ,neighbors etc. Now why concerend with how big tall and not just making it work for you and your specific situation. Maybe you have the ability to go big and can get away with it but for most due to rippers n Leo concealment is key. More smaller more hidden more numbers less chances of discovery. I've got buddies that can grow 12footers in there "yard" but it's extremely private. Most aren't so minis are the key to success some of the newer more potent autoflower strains are certainly smart options ESP for our friends up north. Now numbers become the issue. All back to you and your comfort level. Fences treelines fenced in pool sheds etc. They only have to live there for two to three months. Comfort level or balls or stupidity or whatever tells us it's ok to do the things we do?? Grow em big :)

Planting bamboo along the fenceline is a good way to start up a privacy hedge. In a similar setting to yours in pre '96 so cal, I had good luck with that kind of setup. I kept them about 6 feet tall or shorter, and had no problems with the grow, except for my ex-Chinese leo roommate asking when there were gonna be fresh tomatoes. Think he knew?

I'd recommend keeping them relatively low, and bushy... layering is a good way to do it. See my sig :)

Yeah, you could pull it off, I suggest using AF's since they stay low and finish quick.

I suggest Bluestreak or if you wait till they are available Sour 60 and Mossy Jem. All of these will grow from seed to bud in ~60 days and stay under 2 ft, these are perfect for your set up. I once grew some bluestreak's in my backyard (no fence and I lived off the highway) without anyone knowing. I even had LEO's come to my house for different reasons and none of them suspected anything. (once there was a very large forest fire and I had several police officers and firemen at my house and in the woods behind my backyard)

I had them surrounded with some local plant life that looked vaguely similar to weed that they blended in with PERFECTLY, if you have a fence you will have nothing to worry about.

A great way to conceal in your backyard is to build a second fence inside your backyard so that you have two areas. So if somebody climbs your back fence they have to hop another fence to get to the plants. Dogs are perfect if you can keep them from running stuff over.

Also, a mote with alligators, with a tar pit behind it, and behind that a pit with poisoned spikes, and if you have the money get a Dragon. It helps to have large stone walls with a few watch towers too, just to be sure.

Now if you could only find a Wizard....:chin:

Where I live the houses are pretty close together, you really only gotta worry about police helicopters or some shit.

If you can have it in a concealed area you're probably fine, I used to have my plants in my backyard and I was paranoid the people behind my house would see it but nothing ever happened, but I still tried to hide them a bit when they got bigger.

Its also nice if you have an area where there's a shitload of weeds and stuff. On the side of my house its like that, not too much light gets back there, but I stuck my plants back there when I went away for 5 days and they were fine.

Too bad all I have now is some stunted female that you probably wouldn't even think was weed lol.

I live in the city, I'm sure its easier to grow in the suburbs or areas where houses are farther away and there's woods around. My dad's house has a big woody hill area that would be prime for some plants. I could probably grow some near where my dog is buried but he's moving from there.

I recomend doing things like putting them in bushes. Got a big bush cut a hole in the middle and plant it in there.
I got a plant out behind the grauge growing, i left the weeds grow and the plant blends right in.
If you have a veggie garden hide them in with the corn or beans.
Use clones and plant a little latter around 4th of July and the plants will mature with out getting overly big.
Stick to an indica like Brains Escape, they stay small and arent to stinky. Some indicas stink to high hell stay away from them.
Diceica from Diceman genetics is another great stay small low smell high output cross that finshis dam early. She was bread for erbon growing.
Diceica (Brains Escape x Mind Bender) both early finshing pheno's... EARLY end of August early.

I hope these tips help.

Ha! Weeds I got weeds. My backyard is covered in like 3-4 foot tall weeds. Kinda looks like this

I think that stuff should make some good cover, especially if I plant clones late and along the tree line where the natural foliage is a little greener.

I only have neighbors on one side, but my backyard goes far enough back that they should never be able to see or smell it. Also their house is low, 1 floor so they should be able to get any sight into my backyard. Got a few 90lb pitbulls that keep a watchful eye over my house, you'd have to be a fool to try and get past them :nanana:

Brother with a yard like that and two of the worlds best watchmen patrolling the lines I think you'll do fine. Building a second fence is not a bad idea because the dogs won't be able to tell the diff between your cannabis and the ragweed they'll be trampling into the dirt chasing birds etc. Also more cover. Most importantly do not ever ever talk about anything related to cannabis cultivation and ESP directly concerning your backyard. Seems obvious just had to stress. Know of two people( real life) last week who had their backyard plots ripped, one in mid day, both individuals being robbed of several lbs. Now this pisses me off more than anything, spots ruined and so is also the obvious no smoke for them. One thing to consider, I know these people but have never been to their homes nor did they tell me personally what they were up to but somehow I knew how many n how huge etc. And am SURE I'm not the only one who was told. I've got plots n know I'm the only soul on earth aware of the location. Best and only way. Sounds like you've got the setup tho and should be succesfull, keep em low, topped, trained, late minis, autoflower etc. No rows and low odor. Good luck

depending on the strain and the wind direction I can smell my outdoor crop from nearly a mile away.

Never assume no one will smell it, concentrate on low odor strains, should be okay then.

Would it help cut down on odor if they were planted along the tree line to block out some of the wind?

I basically tried a few plants outdoors this year. Some of the weaker clones and mothers that I was going to get rid of. I live in a very suburban setting with neighbors on all sides. I ran mostly mini single stalked plants (think SOG) in some 16 oz solo cups for kicks as well as a few mothers I flowered out in 2L pots. I just interspersed these among a large potted pine trees, basil, a ficus, etc and scattered about a dozen of the cups everywhere. I have to say it was a nice surprise at the end of the summer and it was also nice to see what pot does outdoors. The stuff I grew at the end of this season far surpasses anything I've grown indoors.

yea i wouldnt risk growing anything outside on your own property my rules is if it goes outside its going on someone elses property or state property.

smell will be your issue. you can camoflauge plants pretty easily, you cant camoflauge that distinct cannabis smell (if you are doin more than 2 plants that is).

I can smell ONE small 10 inch tall flowering plant of mine (chem d) from WELL over 30 feet away in just a light breeze. I know the smell of growing cannabis and when I go on bike rides I can smell it no question. Keep that in mind with how many people come within 1 mile of your property and how many visitors/friends you might have come over in the 3+ months you'll have that ganj out there.

i got away with it i had it in a pot so i could move it around then i would put the pot on the dirt spot then the trashcan infront of it and then leaned that fence on the trashcan. neighbors is right on the other side of the bushes.
