Begging WWII Vet Yesterday

Come on man, you are quick to defend someone you don't even know-and then talk shit anonymously through the internet. AND -K to boot? You weren't there when the event happen, so spare your sanctimonious insecure drivel for other message forums.

My point was he was not using a HOMELESS VET sign. The guy was selling the point he was worse off then he really was.
My point was about homeless people using the niceness of others-not me kicking a FELLOW BROTHER IN GREEN.

Don't come on here giving servicemen a bad name.

Stay Classy!

you must be delusional ... you said you wanted to kick the shit out of someone that need some change for a parking meter. but other people need that change more than this guy so fuck him ... he would've loosened his tie and and kicked the shit out of you ... that's why your bitching about it on the internet

I always carry a "Bum dollar" in my console, when I see one that for whatever reason I feel moved to help, i give it to them, and then I put a new bum dollar in my car, sometimes I don't give it away for a month, other times I go through a couple a week.
I tend to lean towards the ones that say they're traveling and look it, big back packs, dirty, but together looking, kinda deadhead looking, know what I mean?

I've seen guys on the corner put the beg on hold and whip out their cell phone to take a call.
The local news here followed a couple back to nice cars they had parked a few blocks away like Mr. B's talking about where they changed out of their bum clothes into nicer ones before driving off.
Those guys are scammers and deserve a boot to the ass.

apparently he wasn't begging on the corner, he was running back and forth trying to get some change for the parking meter

he probably had 3 $100 bills in his wallet along with credit cards with $50,000 limits

he didn't have any change ... and he didn't want a parking ticket

how many places in the city will break a $100 bill? none ... even if you goto starbucks and get a coffee for $2.39 and attempt to pay with a benjamin the clerk will 9/10 tell you they don't have change for a bill

what planet do you guys live on?

Can't imagine a worse feeling than giving to a fake bum. I agree with Mr. B and ddrew on this one, scammers need a boot to the ass.

The other day in Berkeley, I saw a guy that was panhandling running down the street, pretty fast I might add. This got my interest, so I decided to see what happens.

Turns out he was catching the meter maid, and he had to move his truck at the last minute.
What a piece of sh*t. It took everything in me to not follow this clown and kick the shit out of him.

Stay Classy!

I disagree Jeremy, my understanding of this is he was begging money and noticed his truck was about to be ticketed, not trying to get change for a bill, where did you get that?

my understanding is he noticed his truck was about to be ticketed, realized he couldn't change a bill, and ran back and forth begging for some change before the meter maid got to his truck. you wouldn't ask someone for a quarter to save you $35?

it happens every day in DC ... not worth getting the shit kicked out of you though

EDIT: i have re-read this thread and i still can't figure out which planet y'all are from

lemme guess ... you joined the military to get a college education(wrong reason) and then quit and you are still only making $20/hour?

re-evaluate yourself before you bitch about how fucked up the real world is next time

In the real world 20 bucks an hour isn't that bad... how fucked up is your real world? You aren't the only one living in it obviously... what's so bad about that wage? You can do better than the homeless dude that prompted this thread on that... please explain what all the whining is about.

i am on a 40 ft ladder almost all day long

3 people have died JUST in the branch i work for (nationwide corporation) in the last 6 months

while your sleeping in your booth my teeth are chattering

go to school, then you can expect more ... and if you don't, stop whining

how many people have died in your profession in the last six months?

EDIT: one of those people that died jumped off a JLG lift 60' in the air and landed headfirst on a 36" thick concrete floor, made the local news even

i swallowed my pride along time ago

Ok, some clarification is in order. I hope I achieve that..

I frequent downtown Berkeley daily. There is a high concentration of homeless people there-and when I can, I contribute.Although People's Park has been "cleaned" up, there still is a lot of old vets homeless in Berkeley. Berkeley does have a lot of resources for homeless people, and folks down on their luck-and they should. But "half of all theft is opportunity" and it is well known scammers can make a decent living out here.
What happened in this particular instance in downtown Berkeley, is this fellow I mentioned was dressed almost too perfect to be homeless, as if he put this elaborate tattered outfit together, not to mention him being the BEST DAMN HOMELESS SPRINTER I have ever witnessed-him hopping into a good condition (KBB) late model 90's truck just seemed weird. As he was running, his shoes were damn near falling apart, flapping in the wind, and this look on his dirty face like he got busted at a panty raid. I can appreciate the full spectrum of being homeless-but this just seemed fishy.
I felt as if he was capitalizing on the misfortune of vets and the mentally disabled deserves a beating.
When I say capitalizing-meaning he was in a prime spot for pedestrian traffic-which I am sure some Vet that needs a warm cup of soup , has to wait that much longer.
I saw SAVING PRIVATE RYAN when I was stationed in the panhandle of Florida, when it first came out. The south, as you can imagine, is heavily saturated with Vets-old and young. I sat in a theater with men who have witnessed the worst atrocities man can do to each other. Bus loads of VFW lodges were emptying out into the movie theater parking lot. *I give a shout out to Chosin vets, and all the Korean conflict vets also* Those same men barely made it out home alive-some of the most valiant and bravest men ..ever. You know the end of the movie, at the cemetery, where Matt Damon's older character is on his knees...man, that shit still makes me sob..anyways, I heard so many sobs and sniffs from the older Vets, these warriors from WWII, my heart just broke into whatever tiny little pieces were left at that time. For me, it was one of many indelible experiences that enhanced what it meant to serve.
...And to think of the posers that lie about serving, and abusing the memory of our fallen servicemen- well that just makes my brown eyes blue..(Thank You CG)

If we can give blanket parties to our brothers in Basic, or we can pin each other after graduating A-school, I just have a easy time rationalizing an ass whippin' on someone who for lack of a better term, is being mean.

K+ for all my brothers that served, even you too Jeremy.
We gotta get this thread back on track to appreciate those older vets that have it the hardest. I am sure the ones on the street RIGHT NOW would kick our asses for talking about this, rather than doing something RIGHT NOW. (Ol' Chesty would probably take us all by himself!)
..and I promise I will try harder to get my point across without hostility.
REMEMBER-I said he deserved it, I did not say I DID it.

College promise or not,8-up, Gung-ho, drafted, volunteers.. SOME GAVE ALL, AND ALL GAVE SOME!

Yesterday afternoon I was over on the other side of town in a shopping center.
As my wife and I were waiting our turn at the stop sign to turn onto the main road, I noticed a 80 to 85 plus year old guy sitting in a wheel chair shyly hold up a sign. It read, WWII vet. Hungry please help. He was clean, with a couple days worth of gray stubble, and looked embarrassed to be there. He struggled to get out the chair so I got out the passenger side I was on and quickly walked to him. I handed the old guy a 20 dollar bill, he smiled and said something softly I couldn't understand. I turned around to get back into the car. When we pulled up to the sign to make the turn, he had by this time stood up and was saluting me while shaking badly, crying, and mouthed thank you.
This guy tore my heart out. It's a shame that this is what things have come to.
Could it have been a scam? Could it be he was for real? I don't know. But I do know this. With no increase in social security for the next 2 years, cuts being proposed in excess of 500 billion to medicaid, and housing losses, I'm afraid this type of scene is going to become more and more common. I surely hope not!
Just thought I'd share this with you guys. I can't get the sight of him saluting, shaking, and crying out of my head as we drove away.

T'was kind of you to recognise his input and to repay that with a small gesture of kindness. They are but few in number but their memory stands testimony to the price they paid for our continued freedoms.

Well jeez Jeremy, looks like I was right all along.
Some basic reading comprehension skills could of cleared this up for you a long time ago.
I guess it's my turn to ask you what planet your from?
You can go around giving your money to scammers that probably have more then you to begin with, myself, I'll keep handing out my Bum dollars to the people I think really could use them.

Lol, Morning Jeremy, learn to read and you won't look stupid like that.

i'd like you to point out exactly word for word where in burgundy's original post did he mention he looked anything like a homeless person ... all he said was there was a guy sprinting back and forth asking for change

i can read fine sir ... i thought personal attacks were frowned upon here

Wow Jeremy, all I've been seeing out of you is trolling. You won't last long, especially flaming respected members here. Maybe you should smoke a joint?

IMHO, there are people who need it, and those too lazy to work. I'd say the guy in Mr. B's story is definitely not a guy in need.

Here is the original post, I've highlighted the word that explains what the guy was doing for you.

Here is the definition of the word used.

Begging (or panhandling) is to request a donation in a supplicating manner. Beggars are commonly found in public places such as street corners or public transport, where they request money, most commonly in the form of spare change. They may use cups, boxes or hats to collect the donations.

So when I say your having trouble with your reading comprehension skills, it is not a personal attack on you, but a statement of fact.
