New Sunlight Supply Sun Hut (best tent on the market)

Side by side the sun hut has no leaks...something that has turned alot of people off. I have 4x2 darkroom that is anything but dark with lights out. meaning there are plenty pinholes, zippers leak light, aswell as anywhere the material meets in the stiching. The sun hut looks and feels like the company was listening to the common complaints of their clientele. The darkroom I have has to be covered with u-haul blankets around all seems, it's a cheap easy fix for me. My next tent will be a sun hut.

great read!
i have never grown in a tent. simply because all the previous ones looked like more trouble then they where worth..
this one actually looks quality.
would like to have some personal smoke growing in one of those somewhere in the house...

I have 2 hydrohuts and 1 homebox. the homebox down right sucks compared to the quality of my hydrohuts. My huts are solid and never had off gassing issues (they are earlier models). my homebox is crap they use a lot thinner material, way too much velcro and the plastic corners to need be changed yearly. its a big piece of crap .

Nope. The air doesn't change in composition at all by just going into and out of the tent.

Thanks 40Amps, I should have been more specific. I'll be using a cool tube with a 6" axial fan. With the light vented this way, do I still need to vent the tent, or can I make it a sealed environment (w/co2 enrichment)? If I can do it this way, I won't need to filter my air.

I bought the Sun Hut 4x4 Silver XL yesterday. The sales guy tried hard to talk me into a Hydro Hut, said it was better than the Sun Hut (from his personal experience). Of course it was more expensive! Thanks again for all the great info!!

Drop the co2 idea unless you seal the whole room. You have to vent this thing or it gets too hot causing the tents humidity to sky rocket and you will end up with water all on the walls and ceiling of the tents like it was a torrential down pour. If you want co2 you need to seal the entire room, but the tent must be vented intake/outtake and you need to achieve negative pressure so that your tent won't be vacuumed.

I'm seriously considering this tent based on your comments - however, can you tell me about the "ceiling fan bracket" in the corner? (or two corners for your 4x8). This bracket is mentioned in the instructions, but I don't know what kind of fan you would hook to that?

Your circulation fan - is that a clip on? Or how is it mounted? Is it an oscillating fan?

In addition to my fan questions, I have just a few more if you don't mind.

0. please confirm you have the 4x8.

1. simple question - the absolute center point of the exhaust port on the roof is how many inches from the back and right sides of the tent?

2. another question, now about stability - you say you are "not a body builder" so I assume that means < 200 lbs. You also said something like the sturdy steel framed tent doesn't budge - OK - now putting both statements together, do you think the frame could handle yourself hanging from it? Imagine grabbing one of 2 parallel outer roof supports in each hand and pulling your knees to your chest.. Think it would still hold without the corners or bars breaking or permanently bending?

Not asking you to try this, just curious if you think it could take it.

I ask because, the plastic cornered tent I am replacing is in a medium traffic area - i.e. my girlfriend has to squeeze past it a bunch of times in the mornings in the process of getting ready for work (semi frantic). I have seen her bump it before, and I have even done it myself once or twice, and that, is a very scary thing with the flimsy tents. A fire waiting to happen as you say. Plus I hate having to think about our cat jumping up there.

3. Finally, one more question - the roof cross sections: are the positions adjustable at all? Instructions say to fit the pieces into the holes on the outer roof supports - like my current tent, but then that means they have a fixed position... Or is there more empty holes that you can use? Also, in the instructions the "filter bracket" goes front to back - yet you have yours side to side.... What's up with that?

Busy with work currently but will answer these questions in a day or two.

Wouldn't really bother your self with the bracket I don't put anything on ti it just adds extra support to the corner. All I do with my vortex fan that is hooked to my scrubber is place it on the roof over the vent hole and run my 4 inch vent tube to the scrubber...its really that simple. You don't have to hook up or attach anything to anything. It just sits on the top of the tent and does its thing. Will give you pictures if you need.

... In my opinion this thing was waiting to collapse on its own weight and start a fire....

very important information!!!

safety and security must be a primary concern for us all.

excellent review, and thank you for sharing the part about venting, too.

:yeahthats

Just want to say thanks, I had a customer call me today asking about tents, they had just ordered a 130 dollar 4x4 cheapo tent, for about 50 dollars more they got the Sun Hut from PlantlightingHydroponics .com. Thanks to this thread, I was able to help my customers get a high quality tent they won't be pissed off with a few months down the line. Thanks! :respect:

ok Im kind of in a rush to either buy a tent or get started on a diy - plus you have added new information, so let me simply my questions:

1. Is your circulation fan a clip on?
2. Is your exhaust you "placed in the hole" supported by the canvas alone?

3. I just read someone who said their Sun hut frame is rusting? http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/446985-darkroom-vs-sunhut-silver.html Do you have any rust yes/no?

1. No its a wall mount 12" air king. All I did was use string to tie it up on the frame and I really don't think it needs to oscillate as it provides pretty damn good circulation just sitting there so I turn the osc off.

2. Pretty much the bracket supports a little but the canvas is completely sufficient enough for the job trust me there is no sagging.

3. No, but I only had mine for a year and it is obviously the older version as the new version seems to have just come out and they also have a different paint coating on them that is much thicker. I am assuming the tent he has is the old one because I don't think these have been out too long at all may want to ask him if its new or old as I only read the first post.

is frame paint the only difference in the older and new silver tents? or is the "old" tent the white one?

Do you know if the current 4x4 has three passive intake screens? A back door? Side work windows? Which one do you have specifically (4x8?)?

The distributers have really screwed up the marketing info; using wrong pics, 4 vs 6 inch flanges, etc. Buying one of these is very confusing, lol, I hope your recommendation pans out ;)

No problem let me know if you have any more but many differences in the new tent should be link to the website in this thread somewhere and the one I show is the new one.

1st release = white lined tent (never owned this one just the later 2)
2nd release = silver lined
3rd release = this tent new improved silver line

Make sure no one tries to sell you old stock the old silver does not have sock vents, back door etc...
