Depends on the load, but in general no, a large enough UPS to run a couple lights for even an hour would be SUPER expensive, I know, I sell them!

Um I'd suggest a generator...?
I've seen something that plugs into a wall and charges and IDK what the rating is on them but I know they hold lower wattages for a little bit...
Here's one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842101130
It says;
"The maintenance-free sealed Lead-Acid battery lets the UPS run for a whole 6.7 minutes at its full load (980W) and 23.9 minutes at its half load (490W), giving you enough time to close files and protect data in a power outrage"
So in an emergency, i'd cut the room down to a couple CFLs under 100 watts just enough to keep them on the cycle...
I still think the best bet is the generator... Nobody would even look past a running generator... That's is what they are there for lol!
My buddy had one hooked to his trailor running a 1k light in the singlewide. His neighbors came over and asked if they could steal power from him to use(now we know it was for their grow lol)... He asked them for gas to run it and that was all... No suspicion once-so-ever.
You see, when you run a generator during a power out or a black out for that matter, if somebody comes by or a cop drives by, they don't look over and say," hey, that guy has a generator, he must be growing dope... bust him...." NO, They ALL look over and say "Wow, that's one smart mother F^cker! He thought ahead. I wish I had thought of that."

What you can do is hook a couple of cfl's up to a ups. The cfl's won't make your plants grow, but they will preserve the light cycle while power is off.

right on....so i have a DWC bucket with bubble stones, and if i lose power im assuming that the girls would sufficate within a few minutes. How much time do i have to save her from lack of oxygen...

I think if you got a 750VA or greater UPS, and hooked up one CFL, your various timers, and a couple pumps to it that it would keep your garden alive for a few hours during a power outage, but past that yeah you'd better have a genny. They make propane and NG ones, you could use the exhaust for CO2 enrichment even! LOL

lol...i bet that might work....so im using a 10 gallon bucket with bubbles no water pump...now i should get the water pump for?

1) switch to an ebb & flow
2) switch to a drip system
3) or just to add to my current bubble dwc to spray the roots, which i dont quite understand due to the absence of oxygen
