I don't have much experience with cannabis in soil mate but no, you shouldn't need calcium or magnesium. Here is my bag of dolomite

It's basically nothing but calcium and magnesium and apparently in a good ratio for da weedz :D But one thing I noticed is, you only used half a tablespoon per gallon and most recipes on the organic soil forum say to use 1 whole tablespoon. So you may wanna look into that. Edit: you ideally want to rest your soil for at least several weeks after you mix it too, for a lot of the stuff you add to take effect properly.

Damn marketing... my bag of lime never even listed its contents. It's Sunleaves brand "Soil Sweetener" which IS dolomite lime, but fails to list it's exact contents. Thanks for posting your label though. Good to know its rich in Cal AND Mag.

Yes, ideally you do want to let your soil "rest", but I was on a time crunch, and it should be all fine by now. Been 2 weeks since I mixed it. I was going to mix one full tablespoon, but this being my first grow, I didn't want to get anything too rich. Luckily I have a bottle of CaMg+ if I run deficient in any one of those categories.

Thanks for your suggestions, scrub. Unfortunately, the rep police are on my ass, and I can't throw any more your way :(

Thanks again for stopping by Fill-A-Bong. Things are looking up indeed.

UPDATE

Well, exciting update tonight! :woohoo:
THE GOOD
  • They are loving not being drowned with water! It was a beginners mistake to keep them topped off daily. As aerated as the soil is, it's not enough to warrent daily feeding at this stage of growth.
  • Three of the five surviving plants are growing their second set of serrated leafs! Especially the rockstar. You'll know which one I'm speaking of when you see the pics.
  • Environment is great in the box. Temp today was 78.3 F in the box with 50% humidity.
  • I'm getting much better at taking pictures with my camera.

THE "NOT-SO-GOOD"
  • One of the babies just didn't make it. It was the one I was speaking of in my last update that had no root mass and was just dead in the water. It was oficially retired tonight. Total count is down to 5 potential plants.
  • As you can see from the pictures, some of the babies are still showing some interesting characteristics. I'm not sure if its unhealthy, or if its just still trying to "grow out" all the stress it encountered early on. The plant in the second photo seems to be stiffening up, and is pushing the yellowing to the end of it's leafs. Any ideas on what some of the issues could be?
  • I think they need some sort of air flow blowing across the plants. I want to thicken and strengthen the main "stalk"
CONCLUSION
  • Things are going great for the three strong ones! I'm hoping to see some more growth out of the smaller ladies in the coming days. If not, I'll chalk it up to lack of experience and count my blessings with the plants I have.

More updates to come,

- Hella

I had the same thing on one of my seedlings (yellowing tips). It just disappeared some days after... just keep a close eye on it to see if it's really a problem.

Good to hear. It does seem to be "pushing" its way to the edge of the leafs which is a good thing.

The ladies were checked on this morning and they had some nice night time growth. The three rockstars are showing nice sets of their second serrated leafs and they are starting to grow vertically between the leaf sets. Even the smaller ones are growing their next set, but at a much slower pace. Looks like I'll be keeping an eye on the node spacing from now on. Want to make those things compact and tight!

Another piece of good news is that the weather is starting to cooperate a little better in my neck of the woods. It's been unusually warm and muggy for this time of year and its finally starting to shape up. I'd like to see the box temp around 75 F and this will help accomplish that goal. :joint:

Update with pictures coming tonight.

Looking great bro! You're on your way! :)

The little yellowing on the cotyledons (sp?) is no problem at all usually. I had it on a couple of my last seedlings I did.

Yeah man, I've been giddy with excitement lately. Not to sound too cheesy, but this hobby is really starting to change my life! I've been a happier person since I started this whole thing. It feels good to have something so rewarding occupying my time. And this community has been a great retreat as well!

I'm fully expecting all the yellowing to be gone when I check on them in about an hour. I'm still curious what the white looking spots are on the third plant. You can see it pretty clearly in the picture... third one down from my last update. Not sure what that is but I'm just hoping it will disappear.

UPDATE

Things are looking very green in the garden this evening... Have a look...

THE GOOD
  • All of the plants are starting to grow their second set of leafs and they look very strong on three of them already. The other two "have only just begun"
  • Three of the 5 have some nice vertical growth between leaf sets.

:woohoo: Well, as you can see, they are doing great!

My big question right now is, when should I start with my nutrients?

Best,

I didnt start my nutrients until they showed sex. I use very light does of nitrogen after about 2 weeks going in to the 3rd week.About week after this point they show sex then i start with my light bloom formula with heavier nitrogen

Things are looking good HellaTHC

As far as nutes go, I don't usually add any nutes for the first 3-4 weeks but that all depends on the soil you are using. If your soil is pretty hot, id wait the 3-4 weeks but if your soil is fairly clean and low on nutes, maybe 2-3 weeks. Its better to feed on the lower side then over feed.

Lookin good Thc. You might find that 4 bulbs is more than enough and your buds will get alot more dence. 8 Bulbs in those boxes creates alota heat. I grew in that same set up for about 5 years and found that 4 bulbs worked alot better than 8. HaHa guess i should check my thread now and again looks like you were just there. Ill check back here in the morn. Peace LL

LL!!! You're my hero! Been trying to get a hold of you for months now! Glad you could stop by, as I modeled this grow after yours... somewhat.

I agree 8 is too many bulbs, and I ran into heat issues right away. I'm going to stick with a lower number. I have room for up to 8 so if I ever need to add more, I have that option. I also see you ran 4 - 42w from the start and the ladies didn't seem to mind the lower light spectrum. I threw some mixed spectrum in there anyway.

So I didn't get around to updating last night, sorry about that. I'll leave a mini update here and then get some pics up later tonight/morning.

MINI UPDATE

Well, I fed the ladies some CaMg+ @ quarter strength last night and holy smokes did they love it. When they were checked on this morning, leaf length and width nearly doubled just since last night! :yoinks: I'm going to slowly start adding some nutrients the next few weeks. Namely Bio Weed, Root, and marine, which I am picking up today. The marine is a cold pressed fish emulsion. I now have the full line of GO nutes, and I want to give all of them a shot. I'll be very careful though to not over feed them. Just do it slow and see how they respond.

On the to do list today:

  • New digital light timer. Sunleaves brand... from the hydro shop.
  • Small desk fan (hopefully battery powered) to blow onto the plants
  • Bio Marine fish emulsion General Organics nutes
  • Give the ladies a nice photo shoot for you all to see

Have a great day everyone. Burn one for me,

UPDATE!!! Picture heavy

UPDATE!!! Picture heavy

Let's get right down to business! These were all taken last night. I'll forgo my normal update layout and just post the pics and do a little description.

PICTURES

This is plant 1 (aka: 1_i), the biggest, healthiest, and strongest of the 5. She is really taking off. You can see the starts of her third set of serrated leafs. She's doing marvelous!

Plant 1 again, but taken from the side. You can see the vertical growth its exhibiting as well. :woohoo:

Plant 2 from the top. This girl is still showing yellowing on the tips, but all the new growth seems to be coming in wonderfully with no issues. What's very interesting about this plant is you can see some sort of deformity in the bigger leafs. If you notice, near the base of the two biggest fan leaves, the leaf splits off itself to create almost a mini leaf of its own. Its growing like that, perfectly symmetrical, on both bigger fan leaves. Not sure if it's good or bad but its sure been fun watch.

Plant 2 from the side :D

Plant 3 is going great! She's not as tall as some of the others, but relative to her size, she has the "best" growth of them all; as you will be able to see from the side shot... My only question is: What is the deal with the little whiteish spots on the leaves? Is that something I need to be worried about? It appears on the 2 smallest plants as well. Someone please let me know if this is okay, or if I should look into it further.

See what I mean? This is Plant 3 from the side. Some fantastic vertical and outward growth going on. Forming her nodes very nicely :joint:

Plant 4 is actually starting to pick up the pace. I think the smaller ones really liked the CaMg+ as well. They reacted quite well. Feel free to compare these pics with earlier ones in order to notice all the growth. It's small, but its alive! :D

Plant 4 from the side. She has started to grow UP a little bit! :abduct: Finally! I can't wait to see her get taller!

And last but not least, Plant 5! She's doing well, too! Has a very noticeable second set of leaves coming in. She's still stuck at ground level though. Oh well, she's going strong regardless!

And here is a nice group shot! Don't they look like such a happy family? :D

So there you have it, this is how my babies look after 2 weeks. I'll be training them in no time. Let me know if those spots are anything to worry about it, and leave some comments on how I'm doing!

Thanks for stopping by,

- Hella

Thanks Fuzz :D It's been going well since I stopped torturing them. Poor little things... I killed well over half of the initial crop, these are the survivors. lesson learned though! I'll never make the same mistakes again.

The white spots almost look like trichs...
