I agree, though they are still great TV's (the best out at the moment) and since OLED TV's are expensive to make they won't be around for a while. (their are some true OLED's out their but I would wait at least six months before getting one) Also if you are willing to wait a few years (I'm not) they are going to commercialize 2160p TV's (3840×2160, that is 4x the resolution), they are used today to display 4 1080p videos on the same screen but with the way tech is going that will be the new standard. We already have camera's that film in up to 7680 × 4320 (Still in development, has only done 18-min of footage though the tech is here). The Red One (Used for film type such as iMax) can capture resolutions as high as 4520 x 2540 at 60fps or 2540p.

So future here we come, hell TV is gonna be better than realty.lol

OLEDs will be of "average" price by Christmas.
Samsung's 40" OLED is only $1500,now.
I've got a 52" 1080p Aquos LCD,and I love it-along with an older 42" Westinghouse 720p that's okay,for an older flat screen.
Fyi,everything "LG" makes is absolute shit.

here's the info. on it form Panasonic
http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-...-P42C1.S_11002_7000000000000005702#tabsection
it's basically a 42" 720 plasma HDTV. Someone asked about HDMI earlier - I used that to hook up to the DVD player - but there's no HDMI jack on the cable box - so it looks like I need to have them bring me a digital one/one with an actual HDMI slot. Yeah I think the "images being burned in" thing has been solved, there's a rotating pixel thing doodad...like some "progressive scan" type of thing? It's supposed to make the burning thing not happen anymore.
I got this for 600? Which I thought was a pretty good deal. I still do. I love this...I've never had one...always had a crappy huge glarry TV. This is like heaven. I've got everything set now, just need to tie up cords. Got the cable (television) sound coming out through 5.1. Went over to Radioshark and bought a Wii few ago, so that should be cool.
Yeah I think this a pretty decent TV for a student. When I buy my million dollar home I'll have one of you fruits design a home theater or something.

:) so true.

LCD is better and has more hours of life than plasma. Sucks but true. You should've started a thread that asked "What should I get plasma, LCD or LED?" before buying...

Too late now. lol.

1080p is the way to go. I would've bought the LED cause its the newest technology and looks real nice from what i've heard.

Now you just need a blue ray player or PS3 to really appreciate the best picture quality, running on 1080p of coarse.

Peace

Plasmas suck.....If I were to buy a television today it would just be a 1080p HD.

I have a 2 year old LG 720p plasma , that piece of shit has been in the shop 3 times already, I have had just about every board in the television replaced.

Even the repairman said he would never buy a plasma... Good luck with yours though H^20

Edit**** Oh and that burn in will happen...

sweet buy plasma best bang for your buck! Better for viewing sports, gaming, or action scenes. No lag processes at 600 hz vs lcd 120 hz, deeper blacks, better viewing angles, cheaper than lcd at comparitive size, lcd does better in bright lit rooms and use less power and are thinner.

Pannasonic good buy, others need to do their homework when comparing lcd vs plasma. cnet still lists the best tv out there is the pioneer kuro plasma.

Sharp aquos almost bought that tv rez, very impressed my friend has one and it looks good, but at the price of a 52 lcd vs a 50 plasma it was about double.

burn in not as big of an issue as it was when they first came out, CRT are known to burn in and whens the last time you heard someone say damn i got burn in on my old school TV.

Hmmm, maybe HD cable? But even then it only runs 1080i, which is less than blue ray.

I agree, they need to be updated and that sucks when your trying to play a movie or play a game and then that freakin loading bar comes up. I hate waiting for it to fill up.

I got 4 LCD's, different sizes.Too busy to watch TV these days, which sucks but may be a good thing.

Here's an interesting article on plasma vs lcd's

What do you suggest he use for HD then HDDVD lol. good luck. Format wars are over, its like comparing Betamax to VHS now.

BTW PS3 is only $300 now, best deal as far as a blu-ray player goes.

True, though dish-network is offering 1080p. Honestly I don't watch enough cable to give a fuck, I don't even fuck with optical media. I just download all my HD shit.

The reason that cable doesn't 1080p is that it requires almost double the bandwidth since it is double the frame rate, that will change soon once they find a better faster medium for sending cable. Until then deal with the Interlacing, only really matters if you are watching fast motion (sports and such). Though for most anything else you won't notice the difference, plus the bit-rate is lower to accommodate the slow cable signal. So its really not that good looking anyway its only at the right resolution. (you have a 720p TV right? so it won't even matter because that they do send 720 at all 60fps)

For real HD you need either a Blu-ray Player or a comp with HD capabilities (DVI/HDMI ports on your Graphics card, with HDCP support)

yeah man the "600 Hz Sub-field Drive " thing is what stops the image-burning thing. I think. It also sounds pretty cool. I saw projectors there too, but meh

you could have gotten a 42" 1080p lcd for about the same price.

The deal with most of the high refresh rate TV's is they will do something like have the panel do 120hz and the bak light 120hz and call it 240hz, not necessarily the same thing. Also you won't always be running on those refresh rates (sometimes you do some don't depends on the manufacuer and the chips it uses, honestly after 120hz it makes no difference)

Sorry REZ....

Samsung has announced a 40" oled as the largest possible model they can currently produce.... for a 2010 release. They made a one off 40" prototype, and admitted their current maximum size for mass production was 31". If you can find me one for $1500 I'll buy 100.....

other than that though, you're dead on.

Ever closer to 1984's picture walls and music shells, eh? (50 inch plasmas and bluetooth headsets anyone?)

edit, woops! I meant farenheit 451! stupid me!

OLED's are flexible, thin, energy efficient, transparent, and only require ONE PANEL. So Orwell's picture walls will become a reality but probably about 40 years too late.

2024 we will have OLED wallpaper that will form to our walls (with touchscreen abilities).
We will have cylindrical rooms with curved OLED's covering the walls, while wearing 3D glass, pressure suits and have no need for controllers. With 22.2 surround sound (already in development)

The coolest part of that is all the tech is here, we just need to make it cheap enough to be feasible.

we can actually go one better than that. Samsung are about to release 3d tv sets that dont require any glasses to view the image. Using 2 lcd screens, and a layer of lenses as the front layer of glass, they direct the image from each screen at a slightly different angle so that each eye recieves the image from a different screen.
