I had a question on lights and soil. This is a first grow. How far and when do you start putting light on the plant? And also. What size pot and how much soil should be used? (per plant) I am using Fox Farms Ocean Forest.
You can introduce your plant to lighting either at the very beginning of its life when you plant the seed, or you can introduce light only after you planted the seed and saw the seed sprout break ground. You can do it either way, personally I do it the latter way.
Ideally you want to start out in a small pot, such as a peat pellet or small 16 oz cup. You let the roots fill that container out and then you would repot to a larger container. But all this re-potting business is not necessary. You can simply start the seed in the container you want to finish. And I would use no smaller than a 5 gallon container. If I wanted a serious yield, I would use at least a 10 gallon container and I would veg my plant for 2 months or more.
Nomaad you and others' posts have been cracking me up but it's a clear violation of the rules. After the time you have spent in this thread (probably longer than me!) you should be as familiar to them as I.
Yes, these rules are completely arbitrary, and yes there is no mechanism of enforcement of them. What is offered is a strictly voluntary opportunity for the community to participate in a special kind of discussion.
Edit: Nomaad, the title "smart grower" is meant to be somewhat ironic. But the premise is, if you think you're hot, you will have to live up to it with your answers. If you or anyone else has sometime to say about the quality of the smart grower's posts, they are free to do so. They can make a post correcting the smart grower's answer(rule #3a), or they can make a post pointing out to the rest of the members what you think is wrong with the smart grower generally, why you think he needs to be replaced, and by whom. And anyone else who wants change is able to chime in. If people start demanding one person be the smart grower over the current one, he is able to step in. A people's coup de tat. It is rather democratic. But the premise is the one stated, to have an incentive to not give bad advice.
And for anyone who is not clear on the rules, they are summed up in a couple sentences in the paragraph right before the in-depth description with all the bold lettering starts.
