Ps3 Inter cooler power/ventilation

Ok so the inter cooler for PS3 is perfect. Here is how it works and what i did to make it work for me. First off the inter cooler comes with 5 12v fans an on off switch and a speed controller. The inter cooler plugs into the back of your PS3. The power goes into the inter cooler and then into the circuitry then it goes out to the fans, switch, speed controller.

At the same time it goes in the circuitry and out to the other side that plugs in and powers the PS3. So what I did was this I took it apart pulled all the fans. Then i cut the plastic where i would be left with nothing but what was necessary to support the circuitry and wiring and screwed the cover back on that remaining piece.

Before reassembling it i cut the power wires coming out of the circuitry for the PS3 side and I jumped them straight over to the power coming in from the other side. (cut them flush with the circuit then jump straight across to the other side ) essentially making the fans operate separately from what is plugged in to the inter cooler.

This was actually done when it was used to cool the PS3 I hated that with it installed you could not turn on the console with the controller so I did this So i could and just left the fans running all the time. So now we have the inter cooler all modded up for our needs all that's left to do is wire up the fans we want to use.

I used one of the inter coolers and one from an Xbox and one from the PC case (fans). I used the male plug from PC power supply and spliced an extension cord end to it for the lights/timer. so fans run independently from the lights.

End result is a very small power source that will run 5 fans and lights while only taking up 1.5 inches of space and not generating any heat.

Here are some pics there weren't shot with the notion of a tut. So hope you get the drift.

Chopped it where you can see through the vents leaving only the end bit

Here you can see where i spliced the male end from the salvaged PC power supply with the extension cord and taped it up nicely

I am still trying to figure out what you have created here lol it sounds brilliant but I will read it over a few more times to be sure.

Yea that is a pretty cool idea!

I thought it was great!!

gets rid of al the mess

There is no AC adapters No power strip

only limited by the size of your timer in the way I used it

In a cab none of these are probably going to be big issues.

but this could be used on a cab as well I would presume.

Did u keep the speed control dial for use to help adjust and control heat. I have the same unit for my ps3 that i don't use anymore because it makes noise until i tap on it. Got sick of doing that might use for grow now thanks to u good idea.

Having the controller installed actually slows them down at wide open because with no control they run way faster.

I chose to leave it installed because the speed at wide open was enough to keep it cool in there and wasn't to loud.

I don't really adjust it ever i would at night but don't because its easier to leave it alone.

If I ever increase my intake then i may be able to slow them down some.

I like it because it serves my needs and if i have a party or something i can turn them down all the way and it will make no sound yet still supply fresh air.

Sorry guys had to make a correction here

placing it here in case anyone missed it

Is the one you used actually a Nyko brand? How does the timer work? Is it like a usual digital timer that you can program intricately?

Just above blue squiggle #78 it says _____ male from PC...I think? What does the first word say and how does a PC fit into this?

Thanks dude, breaking new ground here. :D

Thanks for the kind words ! :joint:

it says salvaged and the male end of the plug came from an old pc power supply lol (pre CD) lol so its where you used to plug the monitor in. lower plug in pic of power supply above EDIT: Umm this was a stoned moment its not where a moniter goes in but it is where the actuall plug runs to your PC so using your PC power cable and that male end your good to go.

Any way the male end replicates where it would originally plug into the Ps3
and gives you the contacts to splice in the extention cord end.

The timer I have in the picture is just a standard cheapo analog with pins for on/off

:yoinks: yes sir I think its like 20$ might want to act fast if your thinking your interested. They made a new Ps3 and Im not sure how long these will be on the market as im sure they wont be making the older style Ps3 any longer.

But if they redesign this inter cooler for the new Ps3 it should still work but
were talking about something that hasn't happened yet so i dunno.

But get out there and get them before there all gone ;)
