Head is not the only one with a decent TW in seed form. I would feel pretty comfortable saying to try out Crazy X Seeds TW IBL, and if you can ever find them again, an old ICMagger "British Hempire" also worked Trainwreck to a point to where all the genetic traits COULD be found....

I think either one of those three lines, will get you pretty close to TW.

After reading this I wonder if anyone is already working in the direction of coming up with a new TW that is a clone married to seed and then back crossed?

crazy x which sells on seedbay has a TW version that originates from Woodhouse if i remember correctly
its the clone versus som afghan, then back crosses several times and Matt from Crazy x worked it further also

theres a few up on seedbay from time to time or try asking in his forum here

i have like 13 of them growing in the greenhouse atm

stay away from the GHS version
it should be nowhere near the original and its just a money grab on the clone name

I do believe the H3ads will be down for a little while, so it'll prolly be next to impossible to score a pack of their arcata tw bx1 until they are back in bussiness once again. That is unless a couple of the auctions from a few weeks back went unpaid which I highly doubt. In time though I'll be sending in some seeds I'm making to be distributed as freebies. I'm in the process of breeding my two keeper phenos to a threesome of sibling males. Wow, that almost sounds to dirty LOL..

H3ads approach was a lil different. Instead of using an afghan type for the outcross male as most would, he used what he felt gave the tw it's unique high-stone/flavor, and that is the thai genetics in it's makup.. I do believe Head selected the male for his tw project from BillyGoats Oriental Express. Heads Trainwreck bx1 is the Arcata Trainwreck cut x (Arcata Trainwreck x thai). And it's simply good shit in seed form hehe... I can see why this cutting has survived for a couple decades already....

As some already mentioned gh version of trainwreck looks way to different to be of the same genetics IMO.. Either that or all that she is known for was lost in the breeding. They go on and on about the size of their tw calyx (3 for a joint), and these bx1 seed plants, as does ralondos perfectly grown TW all have very very tiny calyx. I would like to try some of crazy's ibl though, as they do llook similar enough to be worth it

Never got to flower her before Leo stole her from me. Maybe some day I'll get another chance.

Just for fun I have a pack of chocolate chunk going that I'm about to put into flower with the intent of hopefully finding a good male or three to cross with the tw. My thought is the genetics of chocolate trip x deep chunk will combine well the with cut. The tw's leaves look similar to the Thais I've seen before so I think there must be some in her background. Also it would be nice to strengthen those rubbery stems and I think that woody deep chunk will help.

As for the calyxes they are indeed tiny. Out of the grinder it feels like coarse sand.

Well, something that should be noted:

I have talked to Matt with Crazy X about his Trainwreck IBL line. His line was derived from seeds that British Hempire gave him. He selected his keeper male/female from 30 seeds and worked his keepers for almost 2 years before making a seed release. So, the history that you gave for his line is accurate, but the outcrossing and backcrossing to/from the Woodhorse line work was done by Hempire. Matt took Hempire's work and took it another step further....just like any of us would do when trying to isolate and ideal pheno within a breeders pack....

And please don't misunderstand...not trying to discredit...I think the Crazy X line does throw out consistent and very close plants to the original.

I personally, am taking a different approach. I would have loved to have Heads Bx1, however, as it has been said, it is not really available currently. So I have managed to get 20 original seeds from Hempires TW line, and I also have 20 seeds from Billygoats Oriental Express (TW x Thai)...the same seed line that Head used in his Bx. So while I will not be able to work directly with the Arcata cut, I think crossing these two lines should give me a very reliable and consistent seed form of my own to play around with....thanks to the ICm forums, identifying those TW phenos will be a breeze!

looking at picking up some arcata trainwreck cuts at a local dispensary. they also carry Billy Goat's Oriental Express beans (which is Trainwreck crossed w/ a male Thai)... may be nice to pick up both the beans and the cut and make a project of it.
