i have a small closet thats 4' x 3' with about 5' vertical space. It would be ideal for a 600 watt, but i only have a 400 and a 1000 sooooo, what would you suggest. Run the 400? sell the 1000 and buy a 600? or run the 400 till i can snag some clones and run a low scrog with the 1000w the second run to keep everything low so the temps wont get too high. Thanks for any input and advice.

right now im doing a trial run with the 1000w horizontal and holy shit is it bright in there haha. I have my thermometer in there and i will run it on an 18/6 schedule for a day to see my highs and lows. What do you think the maximum allowable temperature can be before its to hot?

sweeeeeeeet its been on for 4 hours with the fan on low, and max temp is exactly 80, the thermometer is a foot below the bulb which is probably closer than the tops of the plants will get, we will see hopefully the 1000w works because this little closet should put out some nice buds under it.

And i will be running 18 1 gallon pots, and 2 two gallon smart pots. Once sex is determined it will be hopefully somewhere between 10 or less to fill it out fully, if there's more than 10 girls i will probably lollypop a few and see what happens with a few sog plants.

for a medium i am using bio-bizz light mix, probably with a little extra perlite.
for nutes i will be using the fox farm trio left over from another gro. I picked some myco for the roots today, been reading about it a little bit and it sounds like it works, so i will give it a go. And for flowering i will probably throw in some molasses and dry kool bloom towards week 5 of flower or so.
I have mixed feelings on the dry kool bloom it seems to work good, but i think it was what made a few hermie.

18 of them are bagseed sadly, but i have 2 blue dream seeds, hopefully theres a good female in there to keep as a mother. After the bagseed i will most likely run some blue cheese, i would like to compare blue dream and the blue cheese.

umm i think thats all the details hopefully it works out good:joint:

I had trouble keeping the temps down in the summer with just a 400 in that space.
How are you cooling it?

i have a fan at the bottom of the door to pull in cool air, and a fan up by the plants blowing. Its in the basement, and its cold here now low probably into the 40's at night so the air coming in is pretty cold

One of the most important reasons for me to grow my own meds indoor is to be sure that they're free from dust and other contaminants.

Though it isn't always possible your first run or two, be on the lookout for ways you can seal up your intake and exhaust so that it's filtered for that and bugs. Cleans meds are awesome meds. :D

Stay Safe! :D

thanks for the heads up Hydro-Soil, i was thinking maybe a strip of foam across the bottom, some of that egg crate lookin stuff. Not sure if it would let enough air through. what do you use on your set up? i dont want some dusty dirty hairy buds that would be disgusting.

My intake is a passive cardboard light trap that uses 2 20x20 furnace filters. (They didn't have the 4" thick ones I wanted)

My exhaust is a Stanley utility fan with a 6" flexible duct pulled over the output and aluminum taped on. Goes to a cardboard box I made for the end of it.... fits the intake on my window a/c ($99 Home Depot) perfectly. :D Biggest problem I have now is keeping things warm enough actually, winter is coming on and I can't turn the a/c down much further without it going off (too hot with it off).

I have a 1K in a large shower stall, hung the lamp vertically without a hood and there's plenty of light. :D

did hanging the light vertically keep your temps lower at all, im worried about the temps in the closet they stay around 100 which i think will be too high, I will probably just veg with my 400w, and hopefully i will have a good solution for the 1000w by then, or maybe sell my 1000w and get a 600w or maybe just add a 250 to the 400? decisions decisions.

None of the plants grow up 'past' the lamp. The tiled walls that are directly level with the lamp are super hot from the infra-red but the air-flow is only 75F because it's piped directly through a 5K btu window A/C unit. You'll need cooler air.

Edit: I've since swapped out the bare vertical bulb for putting into the shade and hanging it vertical. Though the garden was doing well, there's NO penetration through the canopy so the only harvest I was looking at were the top buds. Sick. Even with the hood the temps are fine. Sheesh

yeah im just using the 400 for now, temps stay pegged at 80, too bad there's not a fan that will fit in the gap under the door, then i would have tons of cool air.

Doors are cheap. Got a place to stash the original? Put in your own and cut a hole in it the size you need. Works fine if the door doesn't face a public area. :D
