hey guys. i recently did a little experiment with my blue streak auto that i cut down. i completely trimmed all leaves off of 90% of the buds. the other 10% i just trimmed the fan leaves and left the rest of the leaves on there. after all was dry, it seemed as if the less trim bud smelled better. it was also easy for me to trim the remaining crap leaves off the buds. what do you guys do or think about this?

recently i have started leaving the leaves on while they hang. i have switched my dry area to a tent that the air is pulled thru, into my flowering tent where the air gets filtered. because of this they started drying alot faster, so anything i can do to slow that drying down. i dont know if it made a big diff or not, but it dont hurt so.......

I trimmed around four pounds or so this week and what my view on it is, the first time you trim just get the fan leaves.

When the herb you trimmed if dried then you can begin the second trimming session thats when your fancy pants trimming goes to show and you cut the remain stuff off.

Thats my... :2cents:
:woohoo:

every year past i sit there for hours and hours trimming every last leaf off. i'm going to trim only the fan leaves off this year. it seemed those buds turned out so much better. plus it cuts down half the work load at one time.

Different strokes I guess

Way easier to trim the leaves when full hydrated to me. Less to carry when trimmed in the bush. After you stack 10 lbs of wet in a bag or tarp and carry it out of the bush it gets even harder to trim the shit in my opinion. Matted down leaves and all stuck together. I am always looking to save time and effort.

I can’t comment on diminishing quality never done anything else.

like hamstring I like it trimmed when still wet---seems to me these come out alot cleaner and make for less work in the long run. Only problem is its hard to get it alldone before they start to wilt

it was faster for me to trim the dry shit leaves off. i think in the long run trimming just the fan leaves will be easier and better. of course it's all personal preference. i started this thread because i wanted to know what everyone else thought about this topic.

Total amount of work is smaller when trimming when wet, because it's easy to trim a wet bud.

Inside I normally remove everything without sugar and hang upside down - then after next batch has been started I go back to them and start trimming little by little - better work distribution.

Outdoors I will do something similar I think - cut colas off on spot and remove any fan leaves I can remove fast. Give a fast trim before drying - and then trim only the very best buds for jars when dry.
Everything else - bubblebags man:)

when we trimmed the black box, we had to get everything out pretty quick... we took off all the big sugarless leaf and hung em for about 2-3 days. Then we'd take em down and bust off the nugs into shallow cardboard boxes with fans directly on them for 12 to 24 hours... the more you move them around in the boxes, the faster and more evenly they dry.

the area where trim went down was kept more orderly and clean by the de-stemming happening in the drying space. By the time they hit the trim table, they looked like this...

trimming fan leaves???? i do a 10-14 flush in dwc. all the fans have yellowed and fallen off and the sugar leaves are yellowing and easy to snap off before i even begin to pull her out of the bucket. the calyx leaves get a rough cut down to the bud, then hang to dry. a long flush probable works better for sativas but it makes harvesting soo much easier

Ive noticed that the stuff dried with leaves (mostly smaller ones) does taste better
This has led me to a theory that the leaves being on there slows down the dryout/death process to the point that the plant is still growing while it is dieing so you get a little more maturity out of it than you would if you trimmed them up completely and dried the buds on racks

*if you have a very large plant, you may want to cut it into branches and then hang them, as a very large stem will let the plant dry for so long that mold may become an issue

i have heard this too-makes sense- and will be trying it with the stuff that will be my headstash... as for the rest of it, its going to get moved through the process like its a machine... I have decided against a trim machine, but I still need swiss-style efficiency to get through the amount I have with the crew I have in a reasonable amount of time. I developed the system I will be using on my first grow which pulled down 11.5 lbs... by the last 4 lbs we had it down. The taste of the herb is exquisite. My homies are veterans... they don't flatter newbs, and they are very stoked on the taste and smell... BUT... always could be better, right? If I had more space, a more controlled environment and, the most unlikely to happen- more time, I could make sacrifices for tiny improvements in taste for the bulk of the harvest.

Trim everything when fresh. Otherwise, it takes much longer and a bunch of the trichs will fall off when trimming dry. I trim off as much leaf as possible in a sensible period of time.

take off the fans, and let em dry. It's so much easier to trim off dried sugar leaves. They don't stick to the scissors so bad. They just snap right off the buds.
