IS A 250w Veg room too much for a 600W flower room?

I

Iron_Lion

So basically I screwed up and bought a tricked out 250w setup, tent, blower, lumatek ballast, 6" AC hood, with the intentions of carrying on with small grows for a while. I then recently changed my mind and want a 600 instead, but I dont know what to do with the 250. Is a 250 good for a veg room to keep a 600W busy making flowers? Or is the 250 too much and flouros would be better. I have no experience with a 600W and dont know how big the plants should actually be before entering flowering cycle.

And if the 250 is too big for the 600, what size flowering light would best compliment the 250?

i'd say it's perfect, especially for perpetual harvests. i use a 600w for flower and actually have a 150w HPS with some CFL's for my veg

sounds ideal to me - especially if you get a MH bulb for the 250!

I've got a MH for the 250, Im actually really impressed at how well the 250 veg's plants even under HPS bulbs. Not sure if Im going to get a a 600 or a 400, Im a little scared to jump into 600 watts. Although in todays day in age it seems there is more 400W+ growers out there then there is 400W and below growers. It's almost like anything under 1K is small potatos.

Im ideally looking for like 12 zips per harvest. decisions, decisions :nanana:
Im going to move into my new place and run 2 250's flowering for a while and see how I do with that before I decide how big I want to go.

you could get 12 quite easily from a 400 if you use an intensive method like scrog or sog.

250 mh for veg and 600hps for flowers will grow you some great weed and plenty of it.I use 2, 250's for veg, 1 mh and 1 hps and it's nothing but perfect.I really like the hortilux daylight mh bulbs they just grow charming plants.Sounds like you're in a good spot, grow away!!:joint::joint:

im gonna do a 600 watt hps setup for flowering, and down the road expand it times 2, but i dont know if the 250 watt mh will be ideal enough for the vegging room, especially for when i expand it....im gonna do a sog aeroponic grow with a 3x3 space for the flowering, like i said, but please give me info for the mh bulb for the veg room...thanks all....

Hey Iron Lion---12 zips with a 400 is definately doable....what kinda grow are ya gonna do?....i would recommend a sog...thats just my opinion...theres a dvd called see more buds...theres actually like 3 of them....they have an awesome tutorial for a aog grow...this guy uses 2400 watts, but you can just resize it to your needs...i forget which one its in.....but check em out...all of them are real helpful man.....

I'll have to start with seed plants, first run will be MNS NevHaze x Mango, CheeseBerry Haze, Nirvana hindu Kush, PPP, and possibly some MNS SSH.
Once I can get a nice collection of mothers I will be running clones. Clones will be veg'd for 2-3 weeks under the 250 then move into the flowering chamber with either a 400 or 600W, havent decided yet.

Im thinking cram as many 3 gallon bags I can under my flower light, LST trains all plants. And thats pretty much it.

How big is the tent? I just vegged w/ a 400w, bumped up to 800w for most of flowering, and I just squeezed another 400w in there for the last couple of weeks...and things are looking good.

Very nice selection there, I want some Mango haze myself.

A 250 watt HPS or MH is always good to have around. You can put your moms under it or you can have your whole veg area under it. In your original post you asked if Fluoros would be better. I have used 250 watt MH, 250 watt HPS and T5 fixtures for vegging, and they will all work for a 600 watt flowering area.

I do have my personal preferences however. I prefer the T5 fixtures for rooting clones and the first two weeks of vegging. This is because of the even light distribution the T5's give. I don't need to shuffle or rotate the plants in order to get extremely even growth or height. The 250 watt fixtures really shine when vegging plants for longer than two weeks, because the T5's don't have enough penetration for plants much taller than 4-5", so you get plants that start stretching instead of growing more nodes. The 250 watt lamp on the other hand will adequately veg until the plants are 8-10" tall, maybe even taller if necessary. You will have to shuffle them around though if you want even growth and uniform height at the time they're moved to 12/12.

The T5's allow you to only use the bulbs you need. This can be advantage. If you have a 2' T5 with 4 bulbs and you're only rooting 6 clones, you can take out 3 of the bulbs until the plants get bigger and need to be spaced out. I use a Lumatek ballast with my 250 watt fixture, and I prefer the HPS bulb. The MH might put out the "correct" spectrum, but the fact that the Hortilux HPS puts out about 30,500 lumens and the MH puts out about 18,000 seems to more than make up for the lack of blue light, IMHE.

All of these are pretty minor considerations considering that you already have the 250. I don't think there's a big enough difference to warrant going out to buy a T5.
