Plants in 18/6. One has a few hairs?

Ok so I have 6 plants in veg right now, been in veg for about a month under fluros. I noticed on one plant there are white hairs, like I was used to seeing a few weeks into flowering.

-What does this mean?
I take it the plant is mature and ready to be flowered, but I am still using all 6 plants to gain cloning experience.

The strain is California Skunk, under 128 watts of fluro ( 4 ft shop lights )

I am slowly building a flowering cabinet, so I am not ready to flower, especially since my cloning skills suck.

heres a picture of said plant.

Still have yet to figure out the macro setting on the camera, sony cybershot, so if anyone has any experience with it let me know!

Hello Ace;

You want to look for the symbol that looks like a flower. Enable it. Now you're in macro mode. Make sure you've got plenty of light on your target. Get your camera pretty close (12" to start) and press the button you would normally press to take a picture half-way down. Watch to see if the camera can focus or not. If not, move it back. If it can, move forward. Keep going until you're as close as you can get but the camera can still focus when you press the button halfway down.

Most of 'em will beep if they can focus and won't beep if they can't... at least the Cybershots I've seen.

That aside: you're just seeing preflowers (AKA pistils). They are the same thing as what you see when you flower, you're correct. They're perfectly normal on many strains even in vegetative light. I wouldn't worry too much :)

As far as the plant "being ready to flower," I've seen preflowers come and go in vegetative light depending on how long you keep vegging for. It's not necessarily an indication of "readiness to flower." You tell the plant when to flower by changing the light; it'll know ;)

Good luck in your travels!

Appreciate the quick response Quazi! I will have to get this macro thing down once I have some time! And I figured the plant was still healthy, just didnt know if that meant the plant was for sure a woman or not.

Appreciate it!

what i would say is to put the Cam down and get cracking on that flower cab.. that should be priority#1... there is nothing worse then a half assed flower chamber. light leaks are a bitch and hard to close off in some cases. if i were you i would focus all my attention on that first then take pics. good rule of thumb is to not start growing till ur compleatly ready. gl

Mrpiston38, appreciate your advice, but I am ready, and have been. But as you know how it goes I am sure, you constantly have new ideas and new ways of doing things. I started out with a cab that was going to be used for both veg and flower.....Now I have the room and the means to have just a flower cab, as well as a seperate mother/cloning chamber.
This is not my first grow, I am just a tad rusty thats all.
Appreciate the response.

So can anyone answer the question regarding that if the (2) plants that I see now that have hairs are female or just pre-flowers in general?

No prob Mrpiston38, I just see a lot of posts around here and some get super bitchy I guess. I appreciate your responses though! Lets deffinetely hope they are females.
And on another note, my cloning skills aren't all that bad after all. I am just very impatient I suppose! Planted 8 more clones the other day and took 25 more as well....Lets hope most take and I can throw these babies in the flowering chamber!

they are female. what else would they be? many plants will show sex in veg, its what they do. dont worry about it, be happy you are practicing your cloning process on a female.

why are you having trouble cloning? what are you doing?

Some genetics will start showing more flowers/preflowers if the roots are cramped. If it's been a while, a repot may give you a nice growth spurt and many more clone sites.

i kno what my problem was when i tryed the last time. i know what i need to do now to insure that i get clones to grow. enough about me lol

IF in fact these two "females" are females, would it be best to keep an eye on their traits as I flower them and keep one as a mother? Just seems like a nice trait that they show their sex on 18/6 and have only been living since aug 6th....They may be becoming rootbound, but I am going to keep on taking clones and flowering the clones, once I have weeded out the males I will then have more room to transplant and such.

Appreciate the responses!

Mrpiston what methods have you tried? Im currently waiting on my bubbler to hopefully work, but at the moment I am getting great results from rock wool and rapid rooter plugs in a humidity dome. Strain is California Skunk from amsterdam seeds. The first to show roots was in 11 days, the rest were around 16, and I still have a few straglers everyday.
I use what was stated above as well as a fluro above them on 24/7.

Good luck!

are you using heat beneath them? heat makes roots.

just keep flowering the clones. these plants are larger, so you might as well keep them as moms till you find something better. and just for reference, if a plant has "hairs" its a female regardless of the light schedule. a male doesnt ever show female pre-flowers or vice versa. do some reading on genetics and inheritance and you will be a much much better grower. :)

i was using 100% perlite but going to rockwool and a dome but atm i dont have anything growing, also i am redoing the whole area that i am going to use..

No heat mat used on my clones, I would love to try one though, I have heard great things.
My Humidity is around 90% and the coolest it gets is 70 degrees and the warmest it gets is 85 degrees. Seems to be working rather well.

I am still experimenting, and trying to get everything down before I drop some Feminized seeds. I will have to post up some pictures of my clones once they start taking off.

i keep my mats on a timer. they are on 1/2hr off 1/2hr all day long. this seems to keep the perlite in the 80's as long as i dont forget and let them dry out.:noway:

they are only 20 bucks, and the timers are only 3.50 at home dopot right now. bottom heat is everything.

I will have to keep my eye out for some mats, I have yet to see them at HD or walmart and the only other places I have seen them is the hydro store....they are pretty expensive there though..

Do you keep your light on 24/7?

And I agree, once I had moved the tray to the top of the flowering chamber, like actually on top of it where it was warmer and left the lights on for 24/7 I saw rather fast results.
