Question for the members

A fellow member and I had the idea of building micro cabs for sale. The idea is just in the begining stages and I thought I would ask our fellow IC maggers opinions...

would you prefer to purchase a reasonably priced Cab (complete setup with lights, fans, and so on)

or

would you prefer to build you're own ( I know many of us would)

I will probably close this thread shortly so all suggestions are appreciated.

thanks

Someone by the name of Mr micro/mr grow pro already making PC's to sell, you see people all the time on ehre using them or asking about them, i always wonder if its really him trying to promote or not.

I've seen micro cabs for sale on a UK website . Built from a pc case they looked pretty "homemade" , no filter either , just light , reflective mylar and fan(s) . Would not have bought it even had it been reasonably priced , which it wasn't .
The old phototron always appealed to me but they were far too expensive.

yeah, even with no skills or knowhow, a little buddy buddy with a home depot guy on the chop saw and 10-15 cuts later you can have your own...for the price of the wood and parts.

it's a great idea to contribute to the complete lacklusters, but in my opinion, if youre on here to learn, youve already made your decision to do it yourself..

edit - and failing is learning..

I don't think you could put out a quality product at a good price. You could easily put together a costly product and aim it at dumb rich myspacers, much like what one of the guys is doing that I know of, and I'd imagine he makes some kind of profit, but it still seems like a lot of work and not much return. And a lot of annoying people asking you how to grow weed and then giving you bad word-of-mouth because their grow failed.

thanks for the feed back guys....... was just a pipe dream I guess...lol

what we had thought about were just straight micro grow Cab's (PC cases, ruibbermaid, hard wood) fully customizable/built to order, but Scrub had a point cost v quality and not to mention people asking stupid questions.... oh well back to the drawing board I guess :joint:

If you want to sell something marketed to stoners, buy yourself an ice cream truck. No one can resist frozen confections! Lower over head, maximum awesome. Just don't devour all your product.

I was thinking the same sort of thing. Go to walmart and buy some cheap ass ready to assemble furniture ( http://www.sauder.com/furniture/product.asp?p=1007 ) then wire, light, timers, filters, the whole damn thing. Even put pots and a bag of good soil in there. Ready to go, just plug in and water. right..

Then get together with a local hydroponic shop and see if they would put one in their store. I think that in some of the medical states there is a real opportunity for such a thing.

I don't know what kind of liability you would be looking at though. What if the fucking thing catches fire and burns down some grandma's house.

Just my thoughts.

Hey lmv actually I thought the question was about a PC design when I answered. I've never really thought about it on a general cab scale.

Maybe a small and large "cupboard kit" where the customer supplies a generic cupboard. I mean, what would be in it? (rough aussie prices from memory) The 100w small cupboard kit:

carbon filter - $150aud
fans - wide open but lets say 50aud at the barest minimum
CFLs - $4 for a holder, $4 for a 23w cfl, say $3 for all the wire, that's $35 total. I haven't allowed for reflectors.
Containers - No idea how much they cost but say $4. Six containers would be $24
Light trap - Say $5 for some wood, nails, and glue and you pre-make them so they just glue on.
Your time - Let's say an hour to bring all this together in a warehouse and get one set boxed up and sent off. No r&d or other time related costs have been considered and these are the killers - but let's say $20 for an hour of my time though, to box it up.

So this is the barest essentials and it's only the small kit, and I've left all the real unseen costs out.

284 worthless australian schmackeroonies. What's that maybe 250 US? We pay a lot more for gear here so I think if you took economies of scale into account, perhaps DIY'd the filter yourself for them, you could get costs down a lot. But it still doesn't seem like a great idea to make money.

If only there were a way to make money from marijuana itself :chin: I heard they don't make much rope these days. Shame.
