MoonShineManMix in Smart Pots

hi everyone

I've just recently switched over to the MoonShineMan mix and also upgraded from my 16oz. cups into 1gallon and 2gallon Smart Pots.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has noticed a major difference in watering schedule with their organic soil in the Smart Pots ???

I'm a beginner so anything helps :)

Moonshine Mix is good stuff. I think you are going to do well with it... I probably wouldn't transplant a seedling into it but a plant in early veg should take off...

How difficult is it to 'up pot' from one size smart pot to a larger size smart pot???

Here is "a method" that I've found helpful in removing a plant from one SmartPot to transplant to a larger SmartPot.

The day before you want to transplant you want to saturate the soil in the SmartPot containing the plant. A full day will allow for the potting soil to 'stick together' which is important because the root structure in a SmartPot is quite different from the standard lipped nursery stock pot.

Set the plant on a solid surface and begin to 'roll the sides down' to free the root ball from the pot. You'll soon be able to remove the plant with 95% of the root ball intact. Place the plant into the larger SmartPot with several inches of new potting soil. Fill the new pot with pre-mixed potting soil making sure that you're getting a full & tight soil pack around the plant.

You have to feel the sides of the new SmartPot to look for gaps in the soil. Use your hands to push the soil down and fill in any gaps that you find.

Hydrate/saturate the soil with water mixed with some kind of seaweed product (MaxiCrop is fine). Seaweed products contain several agents which facilitate new root growth and also reduces 'transplant shock' and within a couple of days you'll see that you have new growth on the branches.

No big deal - you just have to remember that transplanting from a SmartPot into whatever nursery pot you're going to use is somewhat different than you've probably experienced in the past.
