What's new

New to hydro :)

Hi there,

I am planning to begin using hydroponics (not just TRY it, because I know hydro is FAR superior to soil from an earlyer DWC experiment I did :) )

I am really looking for a high-yielding hydro method, which at the same time does not normally need maintenance during the grow. By that I mean having to replace clogged airstones or similar. I know that I have to regularly check EC and pH whatever hydro system we're talking ;-).

I have been reading a lot, but its really a jungle to me.

At the moment I am considering a DWC bubbler very much, but I heard that airstones can clog... Is this a rarity?

I am looking forward to your answers :) Thank you very much in advance!

I was thinking about this system: http://www.persygrowbox.co.uk/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=75

It sounds great, as the pump is submersed in the water and should be pretty much non-clogging. I searched on Ebay for the pump itself, and it costs about 12-14£ whereas the kit costs 25£. It is pretty hard to find suitable containers in my country, so it would be easyest to just buy some of these.

If you think it is a good idea, I was wondering how many you guys would put under a 400W HPS. I was thinking 2 or 4 pots if SCROG'ing?

But please do tell me your opinions on all of this. :)

E&F tables are the easiest to maintain and setup IMO. Also more tolerant of higher res temps unlike DWC

I think you will get alot of different opinions

Agreed on E&F, I used to do veg in E&F trays, then move them to DWC buckets (modified Ebb and Grow) but now I do coco in E&F and will never go back. Check out my sig for a link, and check out gardens by Dongle69, Greyskull and others in the coco forum.

i use a nft recirculating system and its never let me down , i love it ,i do a tank change once a week or keep topping up if u like but you get a build up of salts that way :)

If you go with the buckets, your going to have to setup a controller bucket or something to where your not having to lift and drain each heavy bucket every time you change the nutes. it will drive you crazy and give you back problems. i use 4'' airstones and haven't had a problem, but i havent been doin this for a real long time
