Just buy the thing. If you're trying to run that much wattage, you must have built your way up to there, so would probably have $250. I know I'm making assumptions, but ya know, it's the best I can do with limited information. I think with that kind of thing, your best bet is to purchase a couple books on electrical wiring and study them cover to cover, focusing hard on the areas that seem more relevant to this project.
I wish there was a DIY out there for you somewhere, but I haven't seen it.

hey thanks yeah i have done smaller grows and getting ready to set up a bigger one. and i couldn't find any diy sub panel. found some good info on flip/flop boxes. but nothing really on sub panels.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you,you probably wont find a DIY on wiring a 30A subpanel because its a simple proposition.Is this what you're trying to do?Mount a 30A subpanel?

no sparkjumper i do want to run around 60A subpanel 30 to 50 feet away from main panel. that is if its 100amp main panel.

I built one of those in bayarea925's link. It's a step by step DIY. Works great. Doesn't note it in the DIY, but you can configure it different ways too, like have one outlet always hot and the other ones on the timer, or 2 and 2, whatever you want. Cost about $125 in parts to make.
