tethering cell to laptop help needed

Did you call and make sure you have the data plan for it, other words, the not Cheap plan

As lone wolf was getting at, you need to activate an "AT&T LaptopConnect rate plan" for tethering to work, and then apparently use the "AT&T Communication Manager Software" in addition to the Samsung software.
There's the software:

had to call att and the chick told me what att page had the stuff i needed to download.
then she told me that it wouldnt work unless i got some different plan, that would be 60/month more.....well i already have an unlimited data plan, so i told her not right now.
i downloaded the stuff and tried w/ my current plan, and it works fine.
just to be safe i called att back and asked about doing this, and they said it would be fine, but that if they do a 'sweep', and catch me "tethering" ...then they would contact me to get me on that other plan, and that if they couldn't contact me then they would put me on that plan on their own.
...so im gonna try to fly under the radar and keep my usuage under 5gb/month ....that should be easy since i mainly log on at home on my wifi.
just thought i'd give u guys an update on that

Yayyy. Good on ya Nokuy, I am sorry I could not help you anymore. I nkow what you mena about mobile phones, they are a scam, I buy a new one every month. Same with camera's and damn laptops. It is great to see you got it figured. I was going to NOT recommend one of those usb plugin internet cards. They are sooo exspensive for fuck all monthly megabytes. All the best and I hope it stays working properly. Persisstance pays off most times, lol...
P.S. just be very very careful. Running a cell as a modem can be really fucking exspensive. And I mean, you will fall over upon opening ya 1st bill, especially if you use it for ic- I come on here for only 15 mins but it always turns into 6+ hrs, lol. Just keep a close eye on ya usage and bill amount. Take care m8
I remember seeing this thread a WHILE back so i decided to BUMP it up, and i just found out about this new program out there called "TETHER" www.tether.com and it allows you to dump your "tethering" service that you have with whatever cell provider you have, and you can just use your regular data plan to hook your computer up to the net.... I am currently using the "TETHER" 7 day trial on my phone and it is working PHENOMENALLY... pretty damn fast speeds... i am downloading at 1232 KPBS and uploading at 126kpbs.... anyways, the program is relatively cheap to buy @ one payment of $50.... but i believe there are some sites that offer 50% off... look around... some good shit here.. no more paying BS cell phone charges... just get this software... PEACE
