What's new

250w hps 12/12 from seed in 12oz cans in c13 cabinet.

Thats a great idea ickis thank you for that.

Well i added some foam insulation to the doors today and made them lightproof, theres still a few spots that need lightproofing but ive done all i can do with my finances for now. Heres a few pictures of the door closed with the light on.

Hey Macgyver Smoker, how are your temps now that you're cab is lightproof? With a 250 hps you're bound to have heat issues. A 250 mh will burn cooler, but that's probably not an option unless your ballast is convertable.

Nice Job!

The box is now COMPLETELY lightproof. I put a thermometer in the box and left the door closed for 12 hours and the temp was at 78 degrees. Ive recently acquired a 48'' shop light with 2 40w cool white tubes. Ive installed this under my bed, it looks pretty good and appears to put out some major lumens. In my c13 cabinet there was about 20 runts that are on their 5th node but are still like only 1 inch tall. My guess is these phenos didnt take well to the 12/12 from seed method and ive picked these plants out and put them under my bed under the shop light under a 24 hour light schedule. The tops of the plants are like 2 inches from the bulb (very close). Ever since i did this the runts are starting to grow rapidly and they appear to have taken very well to it. Also, 1 plant in the c13 chamber has recently starting shooting up and has shown sex (male) after exactly 20 days of 12/12 from seed. Soon after the "shoot up" it started producing clusters of sacks in the corners of the branches. The others have yet to show any signs of sex, but it should be soon.

Interesting lil experiment ya got going on there. I appreciate the repurposing of the beer cans, but for me they are too small. When they get taller & start filling out, they may be a bit top heavy, especially if you put a fan on them. You'll be watering daily, and moving so many cans around will be a pain.

Next time, consider trying 2 ltr soda bottles. My last batch of 12/12 from seed worked out well in them, plus you can see the root growth (don't even bother taping the bottles). I'll bet you can find some of those red or blue trays that hold 8 of these bottles all over town (I found tons behind a convenience store). They work great when the plants get top-heavy, and keep the bottles spaced just right. Plus they're stackable. You will really get a better yield for the amount of space you have to work with (IMHO, any containers below 20 ozs results in diminishing returns).

For further ghetto equipment available around town, see if you can find a local pizza shop in a strip center. I snagged some excellent "trays" from behind a Domino's (they use them for the dough) and they work great under small pots to catch runoff.

Good luck; great going so far...

do you know about the beercup contest? i think its in microgrow

it might be the cans causing the problem too

Its not the cans, i know this because about 20 plants are absolutely perfect They grow like 1+ nodes a day very tight nodes and the leaves are very wide, lush and healthy looking. Couldnt ask for any better. Im guessing the reason why some are so small is just b/c they are just shitty plants (bad genetics), nothing i did, they just are that way. They came from bagseed from some cheap mids that prolly came in from mexico, only $20 an 8th. The good plants look soooo dank and im really hoping they are female. After 3 weeks of 12/12 from seed, some are starting to show sex. Unfortunately they are 2 males and a hermie :(

I do plan on switching to 2 liter bottles for containers. What i want to do is just finish all the plants in the c13 in cans, at the same time i want to be vegging new plants in cans under my bed under a 24 hour light cycle. 2-3 weeks before i harvest from the c13, im gonna put the ones under my bed into 12/12 to induce flowering to determine sex. After ive determined their sex i want to transplant the females into 2 liter bottles and put them into the c13 under 12/12. My only problem is, ive heard you shouldnt transplant it once it starts flowering b/c it will make loose buds. Is this true?
