What's new

Im getting too tall! =(

If I have no opportunity to LST, and your nearly finishing (21 days left to harvest) plants are 5-6 inches away from the light hood, would you rather:

A) Let them grow into a Euro 6 AC Hood 600 Watt HPS.

B.) Chop them back a few inches. (I hate to chop them back, because of the buds have 21 days left to harvest. Could you use that bud?)

What would you do? :1help:

I would:

C) supercrop! Give the sections of main stem between the leaf nodes a good pinch and twist, but don't bend them over. Just crunch them good and let them stay upright. Stretching will halt immidiately as that bit of stem thickens up and recovers. This way you don't have to chop chunks of your plant off and sacrifice yield.

Try supercropping from the start next time for better height-control and more vigorous plants with better nutrient uptake ability :joint:

I KNOW I KNOW!!! I should have super cropped... I did that my last grow with FANTASTIC results!

I am growing AUTO AK47 X AUTO DIESEL. I certainly did not expect them to get this tall. They are almost a meter or so tall.

The part you're asking about cutting out is the finest part of your harvest. Don't do it. Fold them over. Maintain close inspection between now and harvest for condensation, especially between fan leaves. This is the only time I'll pull fans.

Yea man, listen to freezerboy! Don't cut your plants! I know your grow situation may be tight, but if I can fit all of this:

In four vertical inches then you can pinch-n-fold your hyper-active tops into a cozy little spot with plenty of light exposure. Just be on the look-out for mold like FB said. Good luck! :joint:

if you tie them over like fb said the lower buds will get extra light and harden up nicely.definitely don't cut them!.i've tied the tops down in the last few weeks before and was pleased with the results, not enough to try it as a normal routine, but when things stretch like that it works well.

get some string tie it around the offending buds/stem and gentle pull them out of the way and tie them off somewhere (even drilling a hole into the top/side of a pot somewhere in the cab and tie off there) ...done that with a much larger and smaller cupboard set ups with normal results.HH. =]-~

THANKS GUYS AND GALS!

Sorry for sounding like I total noob, I understand it is the "finest part" of the harvest. I will have to do a lot of bending.

The top nuggets are hard. Very dense. They should be like rocks when dried.

Thank you again for the help!

had the same issue inside the box last grow, ran out of height, so used the super cropping technique in the last month of flower (although literature suggests only doing it in veg) and it worked beautifully  the gentle crush or pinch of the branch is what's so important, practice makes perfect, good luck :canabis:

Pinch? Is wont this collapse the hollow stem? Is this the goal? I never heard of that being done.

I know of gentle bend...

it did take a few days for the flowers to reorient themselves but they did :canabis: and again, practice makes perfect, good luck -- followed these directions

Super Cropping Technique

Another method of topping is called Super Cropping. By taking a branch between your forefinger and thumb you can gently crush the branch. You must crush it on the correct side or risk breaking the branch. Just squeeze lightly until you feel the branch give, then let go. If it gives easily then you have crushed it on the correct side. If it is hard to crush and the branch splits then you have chosen the wrong side. Practice makes perfect with Super Cropping.

further ...

Super Cropping should be carried out during the second or third week of vegetative growth and does stunt the plant. You should also note that plants that are Super Cropped can remain in the vegetative growth stage for twice as long as normal but the end result is a very bushy plant with multiple node regions that should all produce bud. Many growers have thrown Super Cropped plants away because they believed that the plants were not flowering in time. If you Super Crop your plants make sure that you have the patience to wait until the process is finished which — usually about four to six more weeks of vegetative growth.

I have no expertness in this..but I have some tips..

1.Supercrop the plant..pinch ALL the tips, then leave them bended in a 90 degree angle..from what Ive read, this will make the buds really fatten up,and grow in GIRTH,since they cant grow UP anymore,,,I dont have any experience in this,so research the supercrop during flower ..

2.This Ive done..let the plants finish under whatever temps they will have..let them grow up to the light..if anything keep lifting the light when they get TOO close..Ive had my plants very close to a UNCOOLED 400 hps..they only showed minor heat stress..keep a oscillating fan moving air around..as long as the plants get FRESH air..not stale air..then theyll be fine..

Yeah, but a 400 and a 600 are completely different animals. A 600 will light-bleach your plants if you get the light too close, even with air-cooled reflectors.

I am currently feeling the heat. I do see some discolorations. I am going to try to do this pinching deal they are talking about.

I thought this would kill the upper portion.

If you just grab the stem under the bud, and gently break the inner hurd, lay it down gently, it should be fixing itself by tomorrow. I've done it many times, works well to calm down a stretchy bitch. :2cents:

OK. So I did it.

I bent them.....sigh...a few of the thicker ones made a tiny snap noise and produced a small drop of liquid.

I dont know if thats bad or not....

After all the bending, I gave them their daily nutes. What do you think??
