I love this strain my second time growing it, I got the cut from the Icenter in Arcata they were probalby stoned and told me it was called "Barney" so thats what i called it until i was 40 something days into flower on my last grow when my friend comes by who is very knowledgable tells me it is Purple Urkle but then i tell him its finished in 55-60 days and he says no way its purple urkle it grows like its been LST or super cropped (super fuckin bushy) the nugs smell awesome, i dont know how to describe honestly smells like skunk/purpleish/sour?

anyway but here is the pictures (from my last grow, not dialed in but is now in hydro and very well dialed in) the biggest hint to anyone that could know what strain it is how its grows like a bush no training or anything required the candyish purple smell (but not like Grandaddy purp , this is more skunky as Grandaddy purp is more fruity)

The buds are very dense compact and "kushy" and that might make you think Purple Kush but i think the purple kush i have had is also more fruity than this leaning more towards skunky with a side of "purple" smell

Sort of similar to Grape ape but my friend who told me he thought it was pruple urkle said it was def not grape ape, so that leaves mendo purp, cherry pez, purple indica, the purps, (anything else?)

what the hell is this strain?

PU

I've some Purple Urkels going and that looks very similar. The Purple Urkel to me isn't very skunky but has a sweet jasmine scent when the wind picks up a bit with a candy perfume note, yum yum. I started my PU in May and they are just finishing up at the beginning of September. They are very branchy with super thick buds, I'll attach a pic or 2.

Some kind of lavender?

Here's Soma's

Your right, looks like some sort of pheno of Somas Lavender, some of those nugs look identical to mine, in that thread. Possibility there...

Those plants look hella nice! I haven't grown the suspected purple urkle outside (or anything for that matter in about 5 years) so i dont know for sure, but the branching looks similar but mine are a bit more compact and bushy, purple urkle has always been considered as a possiblity....

That looks like all the cali purple strains that are basically all one in the same imo..

purple urple/erkle, granddady purple, grape ape, purple cream, purple nepal, Purple Kush etc..

Purple Nepal is nothing at all like any of the rest of those... Look at the difference, here is some nepal

almost pure sativa

Maybe GDP...could be urkel...

Here is my 'gdp', unfortunately, the shot was taken too close w/too much flash, but you can see the similarities in structure.
Also, its a little less mature than yours...

does anyone know anything about "purple barney"?

A bit more than a year ago, a friend of mine got some 'Barney's Purple' from an indoor norcal grower. Looked a lot like your pics. It was some tasty bud, but unfortunately the person he got it from lost the mom, so I haven't seen it since.

That my friend is "barney" sir...A friend of mine grew it for a yr straight, then lost it to mites. I know exactly what smell you're speaking of...It smells like a skunk with just a lil purp to it...the buds are rock solid. Yup, that's the barney...That's the best purple strain IMO...

Oh yea, when you break it up does it stinks up the whole room?? Exactly...lol

Hope this helps

I wish I knew what the make up of it was, but I don't. It's not like your average purple strain though. The smell is very intoxicating, and the high is very good. I know for sure what you have isn't urkle, because The growth pattern and finished product is totally different. The barney cut is in it's own class IMO...
