New room, 12'x12'x8'

Hello everyone, new member here. My friend has been growing for about 10 years now, mainly OG kush. He had a 4x8 and a 4x4 hydro hut and another structure 3x6 that just had black plastic around it. He was plagued by spider mites, mold, etc because of the general mess of everything. Chicken wire was holding everything up and the ventilation was poor. Humidity was uncontrolled. He did have a CO2 burner on the 4x8 though which helped. I moved in with him and am building a new room (my 1st!). It is almost complete now. It is built into a 24'x24' garage. Two sides are against cement brick and are insulated with the mylar coated bubble wrap (reflectix?) from OSH. The other two sides have plywood (Along with the top). The floor has the cheap particle rubber foam stuff that goes under carpets. On top of the foam, I used a 13'x13' pool liner from pcpools. Black/white poly film was then run around the walls. A cheap door was installed. I was planning on putting poly on the ceiling also, but it was such a pita that I am just doing the walls. I will caulk the ceiling and paint it flat white. My next room will have plywood on both the inner and outer parts of the frame, with fiberglass insulation in between. Running poly film along an other-that-flat surface really sucks. In order to stop the pool liner from being punctured, I have ordered these white foam puzzle piece matting for the floor ($120 from getrung). Next time I will have those before putting in the pool liner, as I have already put a couple of holes in it from dropping things off the ladder. I have purchased a Can-150 and Vortex 12" with flanges and ducting for the ventilation, along with two 18" oscillating wall mount fans. My friend has an assortment of old hoods, all 6": two bigger ones and two that are more of a narrow beam, and two cool tubes. I will probably end up using those for now to save cash, two 1000 watt and three 600's most likely. This room will be just a flower room by the way (The 4x4 hydrohut will be used to veg - probable with a 400 CMH). I have purchased a 19k btu 240V A/C window unit for the summer but will wait until I need it before installing it. A cheapo dehumidifier is running for the moment in the room. I will be getting six 2' UVB reptile bulbs and placing an on/off switch for them near the door. A small CO2 burner is currently also being used. The plants are badly stressed at the moment, and it's lights on, so I am going to go work on the room and take more pictures. Until later!

Sounds like you have a solid start to a nice grow.

Couple of quick questions though:

What type of system are you running (hydro or dirt, dwc or ebbnflo)? I might have missed it in my haste to read the whole post but I dont think so.

Have you begun to attempt to control the spider mite problems??
If not jump on it eary bro, if not your results will be affected (trust me I know from past problems) If they are still little ones hit them hard and often with some neem oil and then figure something out.

We've got about the same thing going on. Like to hear that you are going to be using some uvb lights, i've wanted to get some ever since i saw a utube video about it. do you have a window in the room or are you going to just run the ac through the wall? strains?

hehateme19: We were running ebb and flow with basement mix (coco mix) when the plants were in the hydrohuts. Since we dismantled them, we just have them sitting in trays and are hand watering them once daily for now.. Fortunately, that mix holds water well. We use a hodgepodge of nutrients he got used off of craigslist, but we buy sensi A+B, carboload, calmag, big-bud.
We let a couple bombs off in the room after moving the plants there. This seems to have stopped the spider mite problem for now. I think this is mainly because of the better airflow. The plants have about 3 weeks to go before harvest so no floramite (hopefully never have to use that ever again!) If I see any I will do alternating soap and neem, hopefully that will control them until harvest. As for the future, I will be building four 4x4 trays and doing straight coco with drippers, with two reserviors so that I can run to waste and then switch to recirc after a couple weeks.

manwithnoname: The room is pretty much sealed up. I ran caulking on all the seams of the plywood and 4x4's along the ceiling today. When that huge fan comes on to clear the room, the whole poly wall bulges out with. My partner is getting a couple 8' 2x4's on the way home from work today so I can try to prevent that by bracing it. In my future room, joints will have to be every four feet. When it gets to be summer, we will install the ac directly into the wall, but we are leaving that out for now.

Strains we are running currently are OG Kush, Black Master Kush, Romulan, Garlic (that one doesn't do too well indoors, just keeping it alive). We recently got another OG Kush cut and are going to eventually compare the two and drop the lesser. We will be adding C-99 soon, and are on the lookout for the real Chemdawg.

Well I was forced to take the room down shortly after I built it because the landlord found out and pressured me. I ended up moving anyway. Now I am doing an outdoor grow until the summer season is done. We got the outdoor plants in the ground late because of the move so won't have the yield we should have. I am still looking for C-99.. I want that bad, hopefully Mosca Negra will re-release it. The OG I think I had before was the fire cut, not sure what the new OG is but it grow alot more indica looking and has harder but smaller buds.
I learned that a completely enclosed room is bad if the output fan will rip all the poly off the walls. heh. So I bought another fan and matched the flow with the input fan.
Next indoor grow will probably be coco if I can get the money, otherwise soilless mix. These pics were of the original room being built.

Two more pics of the room being built. One of what happens before the poly gets ripped off by the fans. And the last one is a pic of a closeup of a plant. It sucks I had to tear the room down before we could even get a cycle through it :(
