Min veg time?

Hey folks!
I will be starting a diary very soon, but until then, I had a question about veg time. I am trying to make for perpetual harvest system, so I am looking for shortened veg times.

Is two weeks too short? If so, what would be the absolute minimum time scale to throw into 2/12 and still get a moderate yield under 400w?

From what I've read here and on other sites this question is best answered by the grower. What kind of absolutes will you accept?

Lowering veg times decreases yield and increases plant stress for many strains, two things that most growers tend to avoid.

I've vegged for 4 weeks and I've vegged for 8 weeks, and my 8 week plants were healthier, flowered better and more prolifically, and stretched less. That's just my experience.

I would say if you select an "extremely" short veg time (for seed grown plants) expect yields to be on the "extremely" low side.

A month is a good compromise, gives the plant enough time to establish some roots, etc, but more is definitely better. Are these seeds or clones? I've seen clones vegged for as short as 2 weeks (after rooting) but again yields were pretty low, SOG this may not be a factor if you could pack em in . . . but 1 mother only gives so many clones at once.

2 week old plants from seeds are still pretty immature generally. What strain?

From what I have read on the forums and elsewhere, 12/12 from seed dramatically decreases yield. Hell, I just got this 400w so I am not even sure what it is capable of, or what kind of yield my plants already under it will give me.

As for absolute minimums, I don't really have any pure expectations because I am dealing with a living organism. However, I would LIKE to have at last a half oz per plant in the shortest frame possible. If it is a month veg to do that, I will totally do that. I am just trying to tweak my system to perform its best. Continuous cycle seems to be my best bet for this, so I can flower and veg at the same time.

As for strains, we have..
In flower..
-C99 x BM (1)
-Red Queen (1)
-Hippy's Heaven (2)
-Ozark Pine Bud (4)
**all female**

Seedlings..
-Grendel (4)
-DJS - GK (5 soaking now)

I've seen on this site a guy who got 1lb under a 400 watt lamp. It was 1 plant handwatered as i recall.

Anyways, 1/2 oz per plant seems pretty reasonable to me. My friend has a 400 watt lamp and he gets 2 ounces per plant at least after a 3 - 4 week veg, but he has more experience than me.

Most of what I'm telling you now I've learned from reading here, but 1/2 oz per plant seems pretty low, and I think you may hit that mark even with just 2 weeks of veg if everything else is done right.

Yeah. After some research it turns out that 30 days is about the minimum to get a good crop. I suppose I will stick to that as my guideline. Maybe 3 weeks. I don't know. Haha.

u can even run them 12/12 from seed....

I've done this tons of times over the years when I had spare room when I was blooming. It works well. Sometimes the plant isn't always as potent, and they often look fairly stressed, but extra harvest is still extra harvest.

When you did this, what was average yield?

Most of the things I've read from people doing 12/12 from seed are growing in a micro set up and are getting anywhere from 7-28g in lollipop form (no training). It can vary tremendously, as others have stated, depending on the strain, feeding, head room, training methods, etc...

All things considered, I would say 14g from a lollipop style 12/12 from seed plant with little head room.

times vary

times vary

I have an associate who flowers clones directly after rooting. He gave me a plant (a clone that I gave him) that weighed 6 oz. Im pretty sure clones will be properly aged for full flowering response.

Time for veg of seedlings will vary but as said previously: Youll probably get a bit better flowering response from a bit longer veg time.

Not to be rude, but I have to disagree. Yield is a combination of factors; size of the plant, food and food type/scheduling, air quality and many, many other factors. :)

size of plant is the main determining factor of amount of food uptake capability of the plant if given all other factors are properly provided for including very important light supply

12/12 is awesome if you got enough seeds to fill the space. I run 12/12 and have no more than 1 sq ft per plant and get about one oz per plant. If you got Indicas then they'll start budding real early compared to sativas that stretch a lot in flowering. 12/12 from seed is nothing to put down.

Veg for three week. Once place into flower, start a new set of seeds. Veg for three week and throw into flower. Repeat. Depending on flowering time, you will eventually be harvesting plants every 3 weeks.

some strains arent to partial to such a short veg time, but i average about 3 weeks of veg. unless i got time. your yield is gonna be proportional obviously. but you can compinsate by doing more plants in your room.:2cents:
