So had a small fire early this AM.....one of my sunsystem ballast burst into flames @ the socket plug'in...spot....smoked and charred then flame.....

this was a 2 year old bakllast....1k HPS.......w/ a brand new cord and socket.....well the cord and socket is fried....and the receptical spot is MELTED........so i gotta travel to get fixed or replaced....

MY question is.......SUNSYSTEM......saya 5 year warranty on ballast....and cor/socket setz..........
any one every get them to HONOR this and repalce for free........or will i pay for repairz..........OR is my security not worth the needed info.......

and just pay for a NEW one.......

Wow, are you serious? I don't know that I would want another one. Are those ballasts UL certified?

As with most warranties, you will send in your old let them decide to replace or fix and then send you out the new one. Shipping may be on you, both ways. I have never had a company not require me to send in the defective product first. Also I have never had a 1k ballast lite on fire! If you need the light back asap i would suggest buying new. GL

BTW, it wasn't the ballast that set on fire was it? It was the receptacle, right? Any chance that the ballast had nothing to do with it?
And +K to you for fire suppression, man. Good going!

yep U guyz R....right on......it was the receptical/ ON the ballast itself / not the wall plug///i.e. electrical outlet....... the ballast is fine....
the receptical area....CHARRED....melted and collapsed into it self.......

So spoke w/ local shop.........I'm 2000 miles from where i bought the phucker.....BUT there all DEALERZ...right........WRONG

So after speaking w/ local shop......I call sunsystem repair .......
they tell me i must take the unit back to shop of purchase.....have them pull out the old paperwork......and then ship the damaged unit back to them......

then and only then will sunsystem get envolved.......
well thatz PHUCKED...............I'm living on opposite ends of the country......

So I called the original shop it came from.......they told me to even find the paperwork would be a week or two......
then to ship to them......and them ship back to sunsystem.......
WHERE talking WEEKS................phuck that......
plus they want ALL kinda contact info...and schit..........
to much trouble..........and security breach................

So i call the local shop back and talk to them......re-explain
the bullschit........
so she sayz call her back after lunch...........so wtf.......I'm pissed now....

well after all that....I called the local shop back after lunch.......
and with alittle sweettalk'in and the promise of some penis envasion........
for said local gal........shes gunna give me a brand new 1k hps ballast for 100 bucks........no questions or paperwork asked.........can U diggit......

talk the talk........and walk the walk........it's good to be studdly............

A lot of these shops carry or you could order the part that burnt. You could easily fix it and have 2 x ballasts for say $125

Weird! I just put a brand new SS10 1000w HPS in my spot and the power supply caught fire when I plugged it in. I am really pissed. I had my mentor who is certified to repair it come over and take a look. It has chinese components. upon further inspection, the base is cracked too. SS used to be the ticket. American or "north american components" was the whole reason for buying SS. I should of listened to my bud and picked up the quantums but I was too cheap to do it. SS is now giving me grief about replacing the ballast or even the transformer. Luckily I had a spare, but I was going to use it for my veg area. hopefully I can resolve this. My ballasts are in a control room against a block wall. I am very upset with SS right now.

I have had several SS ballast warrantied from Sunlight Supply. Call the Memphis office, give them the serial number on the ballast and where you purchased it so they can verify if its still under warranty. they will mail you a ground shipping label to slap on your package to ship out to them. the label takes a couple days to get to you by mail then another week or so turnaround for them to repair / replace and ship back to you. It doesnt cost a dime. My last one was a little over 2 yrs old.

hope this helps.
