i want to cool a 250w hps in a cooltube with about 4-5 feet of flex will a 6'' suncourt be up for the task?
are booster fans really bad?

It has been my experience that they are really that bad. It won't cool your lamp, expecially if you are trying to put a C filter on there. Sorry, but the inline fan is a necessary piece of equipment, and will last you for countless hours of service. Spring for one!

i have a can fan with a carbon filter i just wanted know if a booster would cool just the light

Hmm, that's a question I don't have an experience based answer for. Either just try it (is this option available yet or are you just considering buying the fan?) or wait for someone on here who has tried it.

But why not uses the can fan to cool the light? I have done that with a 150cfm fan on a 600w! I needed AC to keep temps in line, but still...

Hey there. Dont think the booster fans have enough power to cool a light. Say you have a 265 cfm booster, its not really pumpin out 265cfm, what the 265 means is if you have say a 265 dayton blower and have to run the hose a real long distance you put the booster inline to give it some extra umph and take some of the strain off your blower fan.Hope this helps.
I have to disagree with EVERYONE who has responded. The duct booster fans WILL cool your light...especially a little 250W. I have 2 boosters in my 1K flower room. I have them connected, and they are pulling through a carbon filter as well, as venting the light, and my room stays below 75 with ambient room temps being ~73. The key with the boosters is their placement, and the lack of restriction. IMVHO, i think its a better choice to go for the booster to help cool the light, instead of paying >150 for a fan that you're going to have to speed control when its all said and done.

I have one cooling a 150wt, but it really suxs. I have a cab with a separate compartment for the light, and you can still feel the heat thru the plexy glass and the aluminum hood. With a 150 heat really isn't a problem(my temps are great right where I want umm) but At first I had four of those things thinking it would cool my cab(one on each intake and one on each exhaust) OH YEAH I have two cabs side by side creating one/Two separate compartments... AND NO FUCKING WAY.. THEY SAY IT PUTS OUT 250 CFM... HAHAHAHAHA. I returned all but one, and bought a TJERNLUND 6 in 500cfm metal inline(just like a vortex but cheaper/135$ shipped to my house/BUT NO 5yr warranty, JUST A 1yr) AND BOY IS THAT SOME POWER. I think you'd be better off putting you bigger fan(can fan) on the cool tube...... exhaust, cool, and filter with one fan. I'm about to do that when my tent arrives.. I have a 600wt HPS sun system set-up.. I'm going to take the hood from that, put some plexy glass on it to close the light off, and hook my tjernlund up to it with a carbon filter to cool my light and exhaust my tent(I'm only going to be running a 400wt in a 2x2x3.5 homebox)I Know I have to use the 400wt socket, I'm just using the hood from my 600wt system...... I ALSO WAS GOING TO MAKE A POST OF IT CUZ I'VE SEEN PEEPS DO IT ON HERE WITH A COOL TUBE AND WERE WONDERING WHAT KIND OF RESULTS THERE WERE.. I DON'T SEE A REASON WHY IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM... ITS MORE EFFICIENT THEN HAVING TWO. THE ONLY THING IS MAKE SURE YOU PUT SOME SORT OF LOW RESTRICTING FILTER ON THE INTAKE OF THE EXHAUST.. SO NO DUST OR DIRT WILL HIT YOUR LIGHT. I DON'T EVER WANT TO SEe A HPS EXPLODE OR POP. BUT YEAH I THINK THAT LIL Booster will work on a 250... it works on my 150, but now I'm thinking about it, With the separate compartment I probably don't even need it to cool the light,but then again that circulation could be the reason that I can still touch the aluminum and not burn my hand... Its warm to the touch but not burning at all..... just warm...

worked for me!
OK, i have a 5x4 closet, that is about 10ft high. I have one single exhaust hole in the ceiling of the closet that goes into the attic. I have a 8in booster fan connected directly to this hole using a piece of rigid (stiff) ducting, which is what is actually shoved up into the attic. On the other end of the booster i have an 8in T connector which...actually, let me take a few pics of it and post them up for you. Give me a sec...gotta grab the cam.

hang the filter up high, than duct down to your lamp, out the other side to the canfan and out of the room you should be fine. Those booster fans suck.

Yea that plant is looking rowdy. Ever think about moving the light down a bit?
Ok, here is the set up. You can see that it was a VERY D-I-Y setup, but it performs VERY well, till this day (hey, can't waste any grow space...lmao). Ok, you can see the on fan at the top of the upside down T connector, and that fan is blowing into the attic. Fan #2 is connected to the carbon scrubber, that's pictured in the back left corner of the closet. That fan is pulling thru the scrubber and blowing thru one end of the upside down T connector. The other end of the T connector is attached to the light, which is pulling air across the bulb, and out thru the attic. I hope this makes a little bit of sense, with looking at the picture. If not, let me know and i'll try again...lol. NorTex

i found the duct boost fans (2 experiences) can't run long term ... after about 6 months it would get wicked hot and seize up. fire potential. it would need to be replaced too often. no real saving over a vortex or dayton that can handle the load for 10 years non-stop.

I've been running this same set up for well over 1 1/2 years. I haven't had any issues yet...knock on wood. But like i said, this is just s single 1000W flowering closet that i play around with different things inside of. I actually have the 'real' setup in the room that encloses this closet. Like i said, can't waste flowering space...
