I like 14/10 but sometimes do 18/6 or 16/8. I figure that the longer dark period gives em more time to grow. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and WHOA! there's some noticeable growth.

How many times have you used 14/10, seems way out there

According to Cervante's book and my own observations, yeah 24/7 just means bigger plants but longer to flower / preflower. If temps / power costs are an issue that can be a good reason to try out 18 / 6 or less. When I was doing 25 soil plants I was staggering them and my veggers got backed up, basically they grew too fast so it didnt matter

I usually do 24/0 until they throw a couple nodes, then cut to 18/6. Flower after a month, or when they get their 6th or 7th node.

24/0 is great for starting out, but growth slows down after the first spurt, at least for me.

I really like the 18/6, it makes the roots shoot out faster for one thing.I have used 24, and doesn't grow root system near as fast. as for the 14/10, I use that also. of course, this is for flowering and late flowering I might add, like 2-3 weeks before done.helps a lot with ripening them, jus a reminder,, im talkin about 14 hrs off and 10 hrs on,about 2 weeks before finished.

Used to do 24/0 but prefer 18/6 as mentioned above you get a better root system and of course less energy/cost. :joint:

18/6 is what i prefer when running multiple 1kw lights in order to save cost, plus didnt notice a significant difference when vegging 24/0.

I have always used 20/4 for vegging. Seems to be the best schedule for fast vegging. So I guess I have to go with your 18/6.

There's also 16/8 where it has a scientific study that shows that root growth is the most at 8 hour night time.

16/8 and 24/0 great question but ive tried both with everything the same grow room, lights, nutes Ph and from same pack of seeds from Nirvana but 24/0 didnt excel growth nor surpassed 16/8 lighting. I had pics to confirm my experiment from same growth date and they dont lie so for my 3rd grow its 16/8 for me

20-4 is the way to go....someone's got a thread on it talking about how the yeild on the 20/4 veg was the best with 16/8 the worst...plants need a dark time for certain root process's...peace az

Just ones person opinion considering how many using 16/8 had better root mass and growth too

I really believe that the choice between 24/0 and 16/8, and anything in between is a personal choice one needs to make based on thier individual situtation.

I usually use 18/6 in my personal grow to veg and keep mother plants. My bloom room takes it's air inlet from the veg room, and during the 6 hrs of dark the vegging plants take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide. This 6 hrs corresponds to the last 6 hrs of the bloom room's photoperiod, so there is an increase in the ambient CO2 level. (during the first 6 hrs of bloom photoperiod I use a "fizz puck" to increase CO2)

In a grow I'm a partner in we had been using 24/0 to veg because we were dealing with a cold problem during the winter, and keeping the 600w MH going 24/0 we eliminated the need for a heater. When the basement got warmer in the spring we switched to 20/4, partly because of temps but also to grow some autoflowers (for shits & giggles). Found we could grow 3-5 autos, alongside the moms basicly for free since the light is on anyways.

I honestly don't think there is an "optimum" veg photoperiod, it really depends on so many factors. I say personal choice based on what works best for you.
:D
