Great write up on how to use a trimming machine

It is a production thing. When you are making a ton of cars, the cost per unit goes down substantially.

For people who need it, the thing pays for itself in no time. Plus, the people who need it can pay a little bit of a premium.

There are a half dozen or more similar units on the market, and they all are within the same price range. If someone could make the same quality unit for half the price, they would probably do so and steal their business.

People who "complain" about the "investment" have No Idea about the kind of scale you Cali folks can deal with.
$15K?
I'll bet you save that in Trimmer fees, and regained efficiency,in the first year of ownership.
Plus,no trimmers = better security = Priceless.
On top of that, you can rent it,and yourself out,if you felt like it,and actually, seriously, profit from the machine.
It's time for....
A Helpful Factoid That The Retarded Will Ignore,But Is Based on Years of My Personal Experience:
Every time someone cuts a corner to save a buck it winds up costing them four,in the end.

Cheers!

**With Cali weed prices at a (staggering!) all-time low (an average of (wholesale) $3000/lb. for A-Grade indoor, slightly more for a well-grown "name brand" clone/strain) ....you'd have to grow shitpiles that require a tractor-sized trimmer to get ahead and stay ahead.

Very well said Rez,
Like I asked at the beginning of this thread, if this machine is out of your league please stay out of the discussion. Maybe check out the micro grow threads instead. Just kidding. But seriously, if anyone has any experience with these kinds of trimmers please chime in with your experience, good or bad so we can learn some more techniques and skills.
I have been PMing with a couple of fellow ICmagers who have them but don't want to out themselves as being on that scale. One of them told me that he hardly bucks the plants at all, he just pulls off the biggest fan leaves and then throws it in the hopper. He said he has to do a little more clean up after it is dry but he said it was like 5 minutes to clean 3-4 lbs. He said by doing it like this he is able to fly through it with just one other person helping him. Next time I use mine I will buck a lot less and try it this way. The less people the merrier. I should be getting my Twister this week so I will try it with that. I also heard there will be some new Twister videos on youtube coming out in the next week. I will keep you posted.

As far as price, the original rotary trimmer that these are all based off of was the Centurion. It sold for $24,000 and was invented in 2001. I don't think they even make it anymore. Even at 24k, you can't put a price on your security.

I heard from my buddy that the new Twister videos have been shot and will be posted on this site in a couple days. Better get out the depends because I think we are all about to shit our pants. I can't wait. Should be better than porn.

My buddy told me he sold a Twister to a guy that had a Centurion. He paid $25,000 and has used it for the last 3 seasons. Now the blades are dull and he has no way of getting them sharpened. He said that the Twister is far superior in every way.
He also told us his technique: He uses a basic trimpro to big leaf the branches before bucking them. I was planning on big leafing the plants before harvesting them but now I realize that the Trimpro will really speed things up so I ordered two.
So, one guy on the trimpro, 4-6 people bucking, one guy feeding the machine and one doing quality control and putting trimmed buds on the dry racks. I know that sounds like a lot of people but he said he trims 20 Lbs per hour!!!!!!!. He also said he has done it in the rain and also in the early morning when the plants are wet which is something I was concerned about. He said at that speed they did have to clean it up after it was dry but one person would have that 20lbs cleaned up perfect in just a few hours.
I am going to be using a much smaller crew but just to know that you could potentially have a 200Lb day blows my mind. What are the limits now. Makes a one ton harvest not seem like such a daunting task.
He also uses the nylon dry racks and has used the same ones for a couple years.
I am really looking forward to the fall now.
Anyone on here going to be using a trimming machine this fall? Any advice on cleaning and sharpening the Trimpros?

It is official. I am selling my Tumbleweed and getting a second Twister! A friend just offered me a good price on my Tumbleweed and I jumped at it. I am going to be getting my second Twister first week of October. I might have to run my first machine back and forth between a couple locations for the first week but it should be worth it. I got to see a neighbor of mine run his Twister and I was blown away. I don't know how but it does such a tighter job than the Tumbleweed. I don't think it will need any clean up after it comes out. It almost looks like the barrel on it is touching the blades but it is not. I was really concerned about the people I have helping me being able to adjust and clean the Tumbleweed when I am not around. The Twister is so much more user friendly. I can't wait. Next year I need four so I can do two back to back setups.

I had a cool experience with the Tumbleweed this last weekend. I ran some dried bud through it. It was last time I will use it till it is passed on to some friends who are broke and will really put it to good use. I had the trimmers put all the small bud aside last year. There was a way to much to trim and the didn't want to stay through December. So I let them put all the stuff a bong rip and smaller aside. So I had this contractor bag sitting around all year and no one wanted to trim it even at $300 per pound. Lazy good for nothing trimmers. They will not be missed. So I was going to throw it out because it is almost a year old but I decided, what the hell, lets throw it in the machine. Three hours later I had 3 very decent looking pounds of very small buds. Trash to cash in 3 hours. I estimated it would have taken a trimmer at least a week to do what I did by myself in hours. Would I recommend running nice dry buds through the machine? Hell No! But it is cool to find another use and it is something everyone asks me about doing. I will be passing it on to my friends this weekend so it was kind of a goodbye party. I will be replacing it with the younger sexier Twister. It's like divorcing the old ugly hag and marrying the hot nympho 18 year old who is better at all the tricks.:woohoo:

Here is a video of the Twister trimming hops. It looks awesome. These guys built a really cool simple sorting table over the hopper. There is also a video that shows how you adjust the blades and you can hear the blades touching. That is what self sharpens the blades. I sold my Tumbleweed and my first Twister should be in tomorrow. I will be using it friday and will let everyone know how it goes.

I HATE all of you guys that own any reel style trimmer :D

We are doing 20+ every month and still trim by hand. This last batch we just got a TrimPro knockoff, the OK trimmer. It did speed things up alot, but seemed like it hacked the bud. Partners are never going to spring for a twister now.

I have heard the reports of the trimpros making weed smell like hay. Anyone know why it does that? I brought that up and like usual, I need a scientific explanation

Hey EM, I know exactly why those trimpro auto and XL's make your bud smell like hay. I have now talked to several people that have used those and they all tell the same story. The chloroform from the leaf gets splattered all over the buds. There is no vacuum sucking the leaf away from the buds so it gets splattered on them. They also complain of big buds getting hacked down to small buds and having to spend hours cleaning the machines. I am using a basic trimpro to do my big leafing before I run the buds through the Twisters but I am not rubbing the buds on the grate just swiping them over it so just the fans get taken off. As finish trimmers they really beat up the bud and I am sure the OK trimmer does a less than OK job. If you are doing 20plus per month it would be worth it to get a Twister. You and a partner could do all that in a day by yourselves.

I'd love a Twister, but simply don't do the volume to justify the initial expense.
When a new,yet-improved-again model comes out, drop a thread in my forum, and if it can be cleaned up to ship :D maybe we can work something out in the way of a trade. :)
I've not heard enough "great things" about even an entry-level Trimpro,to buy one of those gizmos-what do you think about them,HL?

You say Trimpro Auto and XL, how about the non-automatic one? Does it have the same splattering problem?

The basic trimpro doesn't cut it as a good finish trimmer. You lose way to much resin on the grate and they still require so much clean up on the bud after wards. It is kind of in a weird position because it is still so much processing to do a big project with one so it doesn't even justify the crappy trim job that it does. It would be one thing if you could just fly through the weed with it but you cant. And so for small projects it does too much damage to your precious buds so I wouldn't use it for anything but big leafing.

I like that mantra. Replace the partners with a Twister. I like that idea. I don't think you get the splattering with the basic non auto trimpros.
I got my Twister yesterday and will be trying it out today. I have about 5 friends coming over to watch that all want to get one. I told them if they come help buck they can watch. We have about a 5-10 pack we are going to try to do today. I will give a report later if I am not to tired otherwise look for it tomorrow. I finally figured out how to multi quote in one post.:woohoo:
