Mini-Coliseum observations

I started out with half a mini-coliseum and what i've noticed is that this unit can be vastly improved by the user. Some notes I've compiled, but feel free to add.

- I replaced all of their "black" sprayers with EZ clone sprayers
- I would not use perlite again. It clogs the drains. I will be trying STG fill media or rockwool.
- Run individual irrigation lines to the bottom rows.
- I use the drain manifold and drain it to a 70 gallon reservoir. Their reservoir needs a lot of improvement
- I an currently finding a flush-mount drain and grommet so that the water can actually completely drain out of the modules
- I'm going to get the whole modules painted white with a clearcoat

A skilled carpenter/pvc installer should be able to build a superior system.

EXCELLENT !!
That's really what this Forum needs is more thinkers and less sheep. That's one reason Vertical is so interesting in particular. There is no way any other method can be as efficient (or as frustrating) w/ so much to discover and improve. How can anybody be so arrogant that they could even think that a fresh look couldn't better any product/project? Take what you can use and leave the rest. Apply another idea from another method. Use an idea from an entirely different field. Smoke a joint, think about it and know that you can make it better. Be prepared for some failure and enjoy the successes. Philosophy 101 is now closed.

edit-- Back on point, great ideas. I'd go w/ STG over rockwool myself.

My sprayers are green, what is the difference between the ez sprayers and the stock ones. Yea perlite does slow the drainage down, i also have contemplated the stg. I would love to do aero but i would need to run more feed lines cause im using the big boy modules, i like them for aero cause less stagnant water but will see. The res sucks! not enough access ports hard to clean doesnt even hold enough water for it. The bulkheads leave a little water in the modules. I like the idea of painting it white to reflect light and to keep the heat sink factor reduced.

there was a guy on cannabis culture saying he was gonna be putting out a book on the coliseum dont know whatever happend to him.

I may have received bad sprayers. They are black, but there is no opening for the water to spray. So, it's useless. May have been a fluke.

I am currently using STG grow blocks and cloner inserts on my E&F trays, so I am getting more familiar with that media. As soon as this cycle ends, I will switch to STG fill media and hydroton in the media cups. I will, of course, post my observations.

My biggest gripe, and this is a design flaw, is that the modules do not have a slight recess for the grommets. That is why the water does not fully drain because there is always 2mm of water at the bottom of the module. A change in the mold to allow a flush-mounted grommet would solve a lot of problems.

i think an efficient gardners approach to a grow is first in asking himself is vertical possible, vertical circular, vertical collesum etc.? u cant always run one because it isnt practical but if u can its the most efficient use of light your paying for ,for one. and second if you go stadium of anykind its the most efficient use of space.. vertical grows fasinate me, im even curious if a cfl can do it,, its poor design due to the coil most of the light is trapped bouceing of itself and also when hung vertical at the ceiling level or horizantal , around half the light doesnt reach your plants with any strength. im wondering if someones going to do a nice 125-250 watt cfl lit circular grow and blow me away with what a circular can do with one of thees g.p.w. interesting things are coming-
