Med user looking for refuge

Hey all

I smoke cannabis for many reasons, but mainly due to my physical and psychological ailments. Two bad knees, juvenile disk in my back, arthritic, bi polar, and a good dose of anxiety. I'm in the midwest, and reside in a state that doesn't yet have a MMJ law. I'm sure it will be soon but I need legal relief. Stress from the illegality of my situation is a severe factor in my anxiety, but its very important I get my meds regardless.

I have been thinking of moving to CO or CA but I want some honest feedback on what areas specifically might fit my needs.

Things I'm looking for are:

- Safety. Being somewhat venerable physically, I need to make sure I can stay safe. No bars on windows, pit bulls, etc...
- Close to medical treatment centers. ie: Doctors, physical therapists
- Recreation. When I get bored, I'd like to be able to have a good choice of things to do and places to go.
- Well informed and active MMJ community. This includes good clubs with friendly staff, local growers willing to share clones/genetics either through clubs or on a personal basis, etc.
- Affordable. I have trouble working full-time, and I'm on a somewhat limited income. I would be sharing residence with a friend, and our budget would be about $1200/mo. Looking for rentals, as we are not in a situation to buy right now. (Do you need to find a cannabis friendly residence or are you good if you have the correct paperwork and license?)

I would really appreciate any help you can give on this matter. I'm in need of relief from the horrible laws that are keeping me from being truly happy in regards to my medical conditions.

Please try and be specific in regards to area as I will need to look up properties and investigate further. Specific cities as opposed to counties or regions :joint:

Thanks in advance!

All the best,

- Hella :1help:

One thing about moving to a med state is that you can grow your own meds. This not only cuts down on your monthly expenses, but it can also provide a little income if you get good at growing and sell your excess meds to a dispensary.

For safety and affordability, you might consider the part of SoCal called the "Inland Empire" - essentially San Bernardino County. While SBD Co. did join San Diego Co. in their lawsuit to ignore Prop. 215, they are not as rabid here about mmj as they are in San Diego. You never read about busts or stings here like you do in San Diego. SBD Co. is also one of the areas worst hit by the real estate slump so there should be plenty of reasonably priced rentals available here.

Good luck with your quest!

COLORADO, FOR THE MOST PART, DENVER & MOST SURROUNDING AREAS HAVE PIT BULL BAN
- Close to medical treatment centers. ie: Doctors, physical therapists
CA HAS MORE, BUT YOU SHOULDNT HAVE TO DRIVE MORE THAN 20 MILES IN CO
- Recreation. When I get bored, I'd like to be able to have a good choice of things to do and places to go.
BOTH, BUT CA HAS BEACHES AND BASICLY NO SEASON CHANGE, UNLESS YOU GO IN THE MOUNTAINS
- Well informed and active MMJ community. This includes good clubs with friendly staff, local growers willing to share clones/genetics either through clubs or on a personal basis, etc.
NEVER EXPERIENCED CA CLUBS SO I CANT COMMENT, BUT CO IS DOING PRETTY GOOD BY ME

1200 JUST FOR RENT, OR EVERYTHING 1200.....CA IS MORE EXPENSIVE, CO IS PRETTY EXPENSIVE TOO....2 BED APT, CA IS 1000+ FOR A DECENT PLACE IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD, CO IS AROUND 800

I would really appreciate any help you can give on this matter. I'm in need of relief from the horrible laws that are keeping me from being truly happy in regards to my medical conditions.

I CANT RECOMMEND ANY NEIGHBOR HOODS IN CA, BUT ID SAY ANY BURBS IN CO WOULD DO YOU RIGHT, OR EVEN SOME SPOTS OF DENVER ARENT THAT BAD.....BOULDER IS A COLLEGE TOWN BUT AN EXPENSIVE ONE, THEN THERES LAFAYETTE, LOUSIVILLE, BROOMFIELD, WESTMINSTER, ARVADA, (NORTH) GOLDEN,(WEST) LITTLETON(SOUTH) TO NAME A FEW. HOPE THIS HELPS

"2 BED APT, CA IS 1000+ FOR A DECENT PLACE IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD" Now that is funny!!!!Decent price in a decent neighborhood.....I dont think that actually exists in Cali, unless you think the ghetto is decent!!!!!I have lived in many areas in the Bay Area, as well as the Santa Cruz mtns, and Sacramento, now in the Sierra Mtn foothills!!!!By far the foothills or mtn areas can be less expensive, but you sacrifice some things, but hey it beats the city life anyday, besides more space to stretch if you find the right places!!!
Hey if you find a 2 bed apt. for a decent price in Cali. , be weary as it is most likely NOT in decent area. They can be found, but expect to fight it out with others to get it, because everyone is looking for a decent place in a decent neighborhood for less!!!
All I know currently is with all the unemployment and foreclosures in this state(California), you may be better off looking at other states, as we are becoming crap under Arnold!!!But if you do, look into a place in the mtns if you can, it is so realxing and enjoyable, really good for the soul!!!Just my 2 cents!!!!

I am not sure about in CA but in CO the medicine is extremely expensive. I can not afford to provide myself with enough medicine.

If you plan to grow your own that's one thing but if money is an issue you will be disappointed by the CO clubs.

Too many days like today where I sit here in so much pain, haven't medicated in days, waiting for my street connection to come through( Hopefully) because that's all I can afford.

Yet my doctor will give me all the Oxy I want at $10 for 70 pills.

Im sorry for the bring down, I just see your concerns about the $$ and want you give you my opinion because there are so many med paints from Co rolling in weed here on IC. But that's not the case for all of us and I just wanted you to keep that part in mind.

CO is an amazing state and I never want to live anywhere else.

I would go to Cali. As much as I love Colorado, I have been trying to move to california for a while now.

For one thing, elevation is not good for arthritis, or heart ailments. Other than that, you are very safe here and a new dispensary opens every other day so there's plenty of choice.

Denver is good. They don't call it the mile high city for nothing.

Thanks for the info guys!

I've been looking at places in the Denver/Boulder area and am really happy with what I've seen so far. Lots of places for rent and everything is well within my budget.

As far as obtaining meds goes, I will want to grow my own and that poses some questions. If I'm renting an apartment or town home, what are my right as a legal patient to grow and use in my apartment? Are their "pot friendly" apartments or somewhere I can find one? I don't want to have to tear down my set up for fear of inspections, etc. I don't need that hassle.

What are my best options for being able to legally grow and use in peace? (In the Denver area)

Thanks so much for your help guys,

- Hella
