All basically good stuff. I switched to organic soil growing a few years ago and mostly use their stuff along with Fox Farm 5-5-5 and 3-8-8. I also use a few Roots Organics products.

http://www.greenfire.net/hot/ALLF.html Some stuff is cheaper here. 5# minimum.

Steamed Bone Meal $0.94/lb, Soft Rock Phosphate $0.72/lb, Greensand $0.92/lb, Alfalfa Meal $0.93/lb, Azomite $0.83/lb, etc.

DTE is good company with good products. I've used some of their products, but Greenfire is sometimes cheaper.

I use 2 cups of a mineral mix (which includes Azomite) to each 5 gallons of potting soil.

Many/most would say that this is too much and I value their input. Having said that I'll stick to using the amount I indicated.

YMMV

do you use the recommended amount or more? i've heard
rumors of larger amounts being beneficial, any thoughts.
peace

what is the reccomended rate. i dont think ive ever looked it up. i dont measure and rock powders are very forgiving. you would have to add a lot of azomite to fuck up plants. ive done tests where i used 40% or so of the mix azomite. although i got a bit of funky growth at first, they pulled through it fast and took off. i dont recommend that much, its a waste. 1 or 2 cups per 5 gallon sounds ok.

edit: i prefer to just add it to my composting process, i feel it creates more fertile compost, and i just base my mix on compost and know its got everything it needs already.

As someone pointed out, the main deal with DTE (Down-To-Earth) is that they have the importers of dry fertilizers make up their packaging like everyone else meaning that 'bone meal' from DTE is the same exact product as bone meal from another company.

Much of the dry fertilizers in the US are distributed by Wilbur-Ellis which is a billion+ year company involved in all aspects of agriculture, i.e. fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, soil conditioners, et al.

The problem with DTE and their 5-lb. packages is that they're stupid expensive. Take oyster shell powder as an example. The local nurseries charge $9.99 for 5 lbs. A 50 lb. bag of oyster shell powder (from the same importer) runs about $7.50 - but if you only need a couple of lbs. then perhaps the 50-lb. isn't worth the effort to source. Having said that these dry fertilizers can last years and years and years.

.83 /lb for azomite is too much.
i get 44 lb bags for ~ 25 bucks.
i just went to the azomite page, found their local distributor and gave a call.
he'll even deliver if you're nearby.
