So this will be my first grow and i was wondering if anyone has ever put other plants in their cab to help with smell. Like putting a few basil off to the side?

you would have to have a very smelly plant to cover mj odor
such a strong smell would possibly attract some attention, better to lower odor than to mask it

Not a good idea. Doubt you could even make it work.

If hiding the smell is important to you, you need to read through the micro grow section and research building a carbon scrubber. Look at how other people did theirs to get ideas and I am sure there are some tutorials on here as well.

Here you go. The Titan Arum. The foulest smelling plant known to man, it smells just like rotting flesh and hey, it's only 10 feet around.

I don't think it would fit in my cab.. was thinking more like a basil clone or something not 10 feet high. I was planing on making a carbon scrubber for my exhaust fan, is a 120 mm 62 cfm fan strong enough to pull the air through a pretty small scrubber?

It would have to be a tiny scrubber used on a low number of low odor plants.

Actually you CAN do that at home. There are varieties of Amorphophallus that are just that nasty as well and much smaller to boot. They're normally sold under the name "Voodoo Lily" or "Magic Lily" or some such. Large bulbs are often sold as plants that will "bloom without soil!" and some such.

The smell is almost NEVER described. In fact often they went to great lengths to avoid discussion of any sort of smell. It's like cheese gone bad that killed a mouse and then ate it and threw it up again.

if you have a small space, and a small smell.. why not stick a few basil outside of, or near your cabinet, something inconspicuous. it wouldnt hurt.. unless you have this pungent herb smell and you are trying to mask it, then it wont work.
but for a small area with some moms or something like that....

oh and that is a sweet flower.

A good plant I have found is lavender and those mini nilla plants. it's best to plant them out side (in front of window?) and when it get's to be over grown, cut the branches down and let them lay on the ground around the plant and as is biodegrades it will put off the smell much stronger.

Else, a carbon scrubber or thousands of dryer sheets! :)

best of luck.
