Cloning in a cup of water - no air.

Well... I read a few posts here and there about some people just cloning in a cup of water with no air or anything.
This is also how my mother used to clone various houseplants so I decided to give it a go.
Just to add a bit of challenge I'm doing this for flowering cuts from outdoor plants, hehe.

This is how I did it:
Cut off the desired shoots outside - wrap stems with wet paper towel and plastic before bringing them home.
At home I just snipped off ower sideshoots, cut the ends at an angle and put in plastic cups with water. No rooting hormones, no air, no darkness, no dome.
This is the first time ever I've had clones show no wilting at all - they look as fresh now as they did when I put them in a week ago. No roots yet either though, and signs of callous are only beginning to show slightly.

Will update with progress. Did anyone else try it this way?

I use the same method, but I dip the cuts in Olivias rooting gel before putting them in the water, and i change the water everyday.

Great results. Just takes a little longer.

I'm trying it now with willow water, just for fun. We'll see.

i heard some ppl just using this methods with average sucess - i guess for ppl who dont have the space/experience this could be an awesome alternative to other methods if its working!

you got some pictures?

would be interresting to hear what kind of rates you get

I think you'll have good results, but imho you should make sure no light gets to the stem (where the roots will appear). light slows or even prevents roots from growing.

good luck!

Plain H2O

I used to spend $$ on the latest new product for clones, then one day tried plain H2o (worked for grandma) had better results than any other method I've tried. I have a few cuttings in H2o, should be seeing roots anytime now It's been a week I'll post pic when they sprout...

Hmm, I have the space/experience and it works fine for me, I usually will only prop 10 clones at a time and usually get 100% success rates but it takes about 2 weeks sometimes, earlier if the clones is super healthy. :)

I recently trimmed off some of the lower branches that risked dipping into the mud. I then put these into shot glasses facing the southern sky and changed their water every two days. In one week 100% have roots. I could not believe it as it was my first attempt at clones.

Grandma's method seems to be the only one that works for me. I cut these the night before last.
Those foam inserts are from my power cloner. Go figure...

Hello,
What Area Do You Cut The Clones From? Do I Cut Off A Lower Branch Or One Of The Large Fan Leaves?
Thank You

It does work, straight water, no bubbler, no rooting hormones. Cut straight into water. It works. It just takes slightly longer. I use the same method for collecting pollen from males now, cut off a male branch, into a cup of water, over a collection surface of some type.
