Does anyone find that the water temps in black buckets are higher than those wrapped in aluminum tape? I dont think there would be too much difference but im sure the stronger the light the bigger difference would be.

A real useful thing I've recently employed is water heater insulating wraps.... put em around my buckets and the water temps stay nice n' chilled...worth the investment.

Well of coarse, the tape will reflect the warmth and black as we all know will absorb it :)

haha yes we all do know that, i was just wondering if there was a noticeable difference between the two

thats a great idea and probably a helluva lot cheaper than a water chiller/heater

Huge fan of aluminum tape, always find a use for it somewhere.

Maybe a little tedious to wrap every bucket, but it makes any old rubbermaid tub stay cool & lighttight. Can't ask for any more.

Insulation is well worth the effort and small expense, it is one of the keys to my grow. I did black tubs and all the heat and root rot, cool is much better. Insulation requires no electricity, Eh?

you can also try wrapping the buckets in Panda film.....with the white side showing. won't insulate is temp is an issue.....but will block light penetration.

if heat is an issue.....the silver bubble wrap is great......fuck the foil tape !! takes for ever and a bitch when its time to clean the bucket !!

my 2 cents

Hello MAZEinaHAZE,
Is There An Actual Name For The Silver Bubble Wrap? What Did You Use To Make It Stick?

Thank You

I went to the local auto parts shop and picked up some windshield sun blockers, cut them to size, and wrapped around it with masking tape to secure it. THe reinforced lid keeps it from sliding up, the tapered bottom keeps it from sliding down.

Still looking for a way to do my lids. I was rocking mylar but when I switched to my HID intense beams of lights burnt the undersides of my babies

I think he's refering to Reflectix.
GREAT STUFF!
I insulate the fermenting room, the grow rooms and each bucket with it.

Spray glue and/or tape to attach.
On the walls, I use a stapler.

I also cover soil surfaces with it to thwart Fungus Gnats.
White paper plates work for that but they don't look as cool.

don't know the actual name for the silver bubble wrap, but its off the shelf @ Lowes & HD in the insulation/foam board section. comes in rolls of different length as well as different height. to attach to my buckets, i have used both foil tape, and believe it or not, just a bungie cord at the top, just below air hose hole.

the pic's in Weezards looks like the stuff...and he called it Reflectix

Yeah it is Reflectix, I use it on all my units and reses. You can cut simple bucket covers out of styrofoam.

I used to use 1/2" insulation sheets(the pink stuff) and cut them into circles with a slot for the plant stem. Worked great and 1 sheet does a bunch of bucket lids.
Makes the garden kind of psycodelic too, LOL!~

Two things came to mind when I was reading this. First of, for cheap, super reflective insulation on the buckets, hit up a army/navy surplus store for a couple of their foil emergency blankets(they are super cheap 3-5 dollars max, and on would be enough for a couple buckets. The second thing was a diy cooerl I seen somewhere(can't remember though), where a guy took two rubbermaid tubs, made a couple spacers out of pvc, and sprayed a bunch of great stuff(spray in foam insulation) in the bottom of one tub, and set the other right into it before it had a chance to expand too much. It pushed in the sides of the rubbermaid a bit, but I am sure if you used 5 gallon buckets, it would be rock solid
