I find the comment about no preflowers interesting....

I find that using 24-0 promotes autoflowering.....

That a cycle with a dark period is better at not producing flowers.....

Not all mind you.... but some plants dont like 24-0

Anyone else notice that????

You are right about that being strain specific. I am growing a Black Russian hybrid and because of the Black Russian's propensity for getting preflowers during vegging I have to keep it on 24 hour light. If you let this hybrid get a few nights of 6 hours dark time it will start to get lots of preflowers. This isn't a real problem when I am vegging the clones with the purpose of flowering them out, but it sure puts a kink into keeping mothers. I also had the same problem with DAB years ago. And once my mother plant started getting preflowers it was a time killer to get the cuttings to vegg properly.
But in the end I don't care what strain you have a mother of, it is going to start to show signs of flowering no matter what light cycle you have it on. It is just nature at work.

Many good points brought up by everybody. For me it's 24/0 with a 18/6 once a week. If I need lots of clones then I run 24/0 all the way. If I don't need a lot of clones and want to slow things down I go 18/6 but sometimes they still grow like crazy.

next poll might be what light for vegging? three categories MH, FL, T-5?

Why not shake it up and roll 2 hours On 1 Hour Off ??? Or 9 On 3 Off 9 On 3 Off ??? Or 10 On 2 Off 10 On 2 Off ??? Write 24, 18/6, and 20/4 on separate pieces of paper ... Hang them in a Triangular Fashion Facing the wall and Blindly toss a dart ??? Let chance decide ... Ms Cleo will tell you the correct path for Nine dollars Ninety Five cents a minute ...

It's not just the waste of electricity, I think plants grow faster when they get a decent nights sleep. Or, to put it another way, when they are growing faster they need longer nights. When plants are growing fast, you can see that fluorescent green color of the new growth most in the morning. Not only that, I think I can see the difference of growth over night more than the day.

is it really 18/6? i get by just fine 9-5 veg, i wouldnt go beyond that but i have no problems no reason to switch. i was veging on 24/7 then went to 18/6 i think but changed little by little so their wasnt such a photochange when i luged my plants out may 10 for big hual under gods lamp. i had the timer set on 16/8 when i rotated my indoor crop and then kept it going as trial and error has everything to do with reaserch and development

You should see what Mom does to weed with a PowerPuff Girls Nightlight and a Red Lava Lamp.

If you are a very low stress grower, your plants grow extremely fast. When they really grow fast, they need a long nights rest. After 41 years, I'm getting the hang of it, and my plants pretty much seem to need about 8 hours of night with my present technique. I used to use longer days, but not now. Me now at 16/8.

plants love and sorta need that darkness period to grow

ROOTS!!! Studies show that roots grow better during periods of rest (dark time)!!!

Besides which,,, since when did ANY plant grow on 24hour in nature!

Remember they are plants,, not computer chips!!! :canabis:

Not to be a kill joy, but people do grow some phenominal plants under 24hr light outdoors in Alaska.
But that is the exception. I still agree with everything else you said, LOL!

I switched to 20 on and 4 off and I think I see difference allready. Pretty much same strains, but they are further ahead than usual in the cycle, taller and actually needed up potting sooner. YEAH! So thanks all.

Also wondering if anyone else is breaking up the light cycle? Example with Veg, 20 hour light cycle. have the smaller flouro's come on right away in the morning, stay lite up for 6 hours, then the big lights come on, what ever you use and they on for 8 hours, then shut the big ones down and finish the 6 hour day under flouro's?

Kind of like a more natural cycle of rise and set of sun?

and then thought about in flower, any body ever have their grow room with dual lights? maybe have flouros come on for 2 hours in the morning and then cook them on high for 8 hours and then close the day down with 2 under the smaller lights?

Just some random thoughts, any feedback? Thanks.. Canna
