How does the genetics and charastics of a plant degrade as you clone a clone from a clone that was from some clones etc...

Well in essence your copying the DNA but enviormental factors also re-write genetic code, so small factors over long periods of Cloning produce different end results.

Usually they tend to have lower THC levels.

I've heard this before too about the weakening of the thc levels...i don't know, it would be great to know how many generations you could get before noticing a difference...i'm guessing it would be strain dependant as well too.

I've been studying various forums for the last 7 years and if I was to pull out a possible answer from all that.......

Breeders have kept the same mums, clone to clone, for decades. The only time I've seen evidence of degeneration is when the mums weren't healthy or the clones were adversely affected by environment.

Other than that, a clone from a clone is an exact copy because you're starting with some of the original plant.... you're not actually 'Copying" anything.

A fellow grower has some of my cuts and runs from mother plants , i run cut from cut with no mothers.
He is at +4 from original plant and i am at +20 or more , if there is any degradation it is too close to call in form or yield in four crosses at least.
Would be harder to quantify potency if that were diminished over time.

Will compare again in a year but do not expect any change.

Again I say degradation is BS. Think 5th element movie where they rebuild the entire hot chick out of a single cell.

This one was 5 years of clone clone clone clone clone. There are independent reports that the quality still rocks the universe.

10 years so are told in the bible growers. ТCH it becomes insignificant the small. I cloned no more than 2 years, genetic deviations, taste and smell loss were then visible. There were leaves with one petal

I would definitely look at your growing environment and fix it.

There are no changes in a strains genetics unless it is damaged by disease/stress. You're cutting off a section of MILLIONS of plant cells and those cells keep on multiplying and growing. There isn't some magic sensor in a plant that lets it know that it isn't attached to the original plant anymore.

Growing roots on a stem doesn't change genetics, only your growing environment will do that. Diseases can significantly harm your plants, bugs and humans carry disease and a dirty grow room will make it easy for them to multiply.

Keep your areas CLEAN. :D

No degradation in 3 years of the same strain. People always compliment me on the consistency. If anything, with improved care over the years, my clones are more robust and frostier than the originals.

I agree 100%. Me and a very close friend of mine been growing the same shit from moms and clones since 1981. It has no name because he didnt name this paticular bud and its a large producer indoors or out. The thc content has to be up there because it dont take much to get blistered. The high is great and it tastes great but it expands in your lungs from a hit like a SOB. Lung buster it should be named. I would like to distribute seed but its my friends genetics and he won't part with it for some odd reason. If it was my call i would spread it out. Trust me this bud is as good as it was in 1981 with no decrease that i can tell. Seeds are quite large as well. By the way its indica dominate. He is an old timer like me and set in his ways.

H-S is spot on, health and environment are the factors that effect clones. There are certainly variations, but they always come down to grower issues.

Some of the 'boys of summer' down in Southern Oregon claim to have clones/mothers dating back to at least 1981 and earlier.

That's the claim anyway.
