curing for taste and potency

For the last couple of years ive been curing in an unusual way and its effects on the plant are significant with regaurd to taste and potency.

For these plants i use total organics with plant sugars added in the last weeks.

Its simple. On the last day of flowering, I take the plants from under the lights and place them in a dark room in their pots where they remain for the next 3 -4 weeks. A sneek peek reveals that it takes them about 5 or 6 days to completely die.

They seem to continue to produce trichs for the days they remain alive and the taste of the weed is greatly enhanced. The taste is sweet and sublime and the smoke is smooth.

It works amazingly well for me so i wanted to pass it on.

you did, i am with you?
but i get putting them in the dark, once they are dead chop em up , clean em up and jar/ bag em.
they should be smooth and tasty regardless if 1 flushes properly and harvests in the dark.

wow, 3-4 weeks? interesting indeed.

my last grow i let them sit for four days in the dark before i cut them down. they seem to get a bit more frosty. my friend did the same thing on her last grow and the WW she had exploded with extra shimmer.

sitting there for 3-4 weeks the buds don't get overly dry? i live in a really dry climate and i'd be afraid 3-4 weeks would be too much. what type of climate do you live in? typical humidity in my area is under 10%.

ya...WTF -- hopefully a distype

i concur on the couple days of darkness after flower period is over, but trimming dead flakey tree's just doesn't excite me...actually, trimming doesnt excite me at all, ever....except knowing whats to come next :)

yeah right...maybe 3 or 4 days in the dark, but weeks, man this stoner site has type oos in just about every post..its to be expected. the way i see is , if you chop your plants and then hang them from 4-7 days to dry u could just as easily starve your plants of water the last week, put them in the dark in there containers still and come back in a week and yah probally have a little more frost as the plant realizes without a doubt its days are numbered and signals thc to help save it at the same time it dries out. i may try this-

I understand where he is coming from.

For me there are three things that come to mind. first, when you hang buds upside down to dry the dry into a nice teardrop shape, which I like.

Second, if you are growing in soil you wouldnt want the extra moisture and potential mold coming from the soil or soil medium.

lastly, you can hang plants in less space without sacrificing drying time when you chop them up and hang them on a line.

My Guess

My Guess

is that the temp has more to do with it than actual light deprivation. Though turning off the lights does lower temps.:chin:

I learned in herbaceous plants class that at night time the nutrients within the plant drop down into the root system, and when the sun comes up they send the nutrients back up. I think that might be why they taste sweeter because there is less nutrients in the flowers, assuming they die at night. Im only scratching the surface with my studies, im sure it is much more complex, but thats what i think
