Contact High

Been having a disagreement :wallbash: with a friend of mine about what some people call a contact high.

As far as I know a contact high is a result of sitting around people smoking weed :joint: and breathing in the smoke, from the room or car or whatever. In Australia we call it a Dutch Oven or a dutchy.

My friend is convinced that it means he will have to wear gloves whenever he has any contact with the plant during flowering or when harvesting etc, so that he does not get a 'Contact High' from touching the plants and the THC going through his fingers and into his bloodstream. This is only a problem for him because he isn't a weed smoker :noway: and is worried about 'getting stoned' from touching his plants.

Now I am not familiar with the term 'contact high' but I don't think it means THC through the skin and into the bloodstream, and I don't think THC on it's own without any cannabinoids would do dick. I could be wrong though so can anyone tell my friend what a Contact High is, or me?

If he isn't a weed smoker then why does he grow it? I side with you on this one, but I have no evidence to back it up :joint:

"NIRVANA SEEDS AK-48
Review

Didn't taste very good compared to Northern Lights but potency damn, it's definitely the most potent buds I have grown or smoked. Let it veg for 6-7-8 weeks it gets way more potent, I even got a contact high from it which I never do when I wasn't smoking. It is so potent it makes you slobber and feel dumb. Couchlock 99% it's crazy potent but nice weed to relax, eat, go to sleep with. Not quite 1 hitter quitter but near it."
:yeahthats

This is where the idea came from. My mate used to be a smoker but hasn't smoked in years, he decided to grow an AK-48 and this review was on the vendor reviews on IC.

You could go either way with what he says. I just never heard of anyone licking a bud to get high or something. I can understand eating it because it's not just resin that you are getting. But then isn't hash just the resin anyway? I just think it would take too long to sink into your blood if it could. I mean I could have a bath in beer for an hour and probably not feel drunk afterwards right?

Contact highs can come from the smoke burning off the tip of the doobie or bowl that is not being inhaled. Unless the room is full of enough of this smoke your not going to get a contact high.

It is not possible to get high through touching the plant or plant bud etc. The cannaboides are only activated when they reach a specific temp..thats why you have to smoke weed to get high, or cook it to release the thc.

I know that there are chemical changes that take place when the bud sees higher than 250degF, but to say that it needs to get to that temp to get you high is not true.
I have eaten lots of hash that has never seen heat. None. And I get trashed like never before.
Go eat a big fat frosty bud and report back to us. LOL....

Contact high is referring to the intake of thc without smoking, and by simply breathing in air that has smoke in it. It has nothing to do with physical "contact" with the plant.
A drug screen doc has a certain level of chemical positive he can allow, as it would be in the range of a person who is around smoke, yet doesn't smoke themselves.
This was explained to me verbatim by a drug screen doctor.

Is he not able to smoke for legal reasons? It seems like madness to me to grow them and not smoke them at all....

i have eaten many buds and gotten high!i have also soaked buds in crown royal and when you drink the crown you get high as a kite!no heat in either of those instances

Jnugg -- thank you ! THC does not remain active in smoke for much longer than a few seconds (if that) therefore a room full of weed smoke gets you no higher than a room full of any other smoke.
