DOES MAXICROP KILL BENEFICIAL MICROBES?

JAHWORKS

New member
I have been experimenting with both compost and guano teas lately - I always add about a teaspoon per gallon of Maxicrop liquid seaweed to the teas and I also water and foliar feed vegging plants with just a maxicrop/water mix at times - but the other day, for some reason, I started reading the labels and almost had a heartattack when I saw the Maxicrop has 1% chlorine in it :yoinks:- we all know chlorine kills the little buddies we try so hard to get in there - so my question is does the liquid Maxicrop kill off the beneficial microbes or is the chlorine at 1% too little to kill them? Here are the specs on the liquid Maxicrop:0 - 0 - 1

Guaranteed Analysis
Soluble Potash (K2O): 1.0%
Derived from Ascophyllum Nodosum Seaweed
Chlorine (Cl) not more than 1.0%

Any and all hlp and answers would be greatly appreciated!---

well if they mean any chlorine at all, they are basically talking about salts. sodium chloride, calcium chloride, etc...

if they mean chlorine gas, I am scratching my head as to why they would add that, and how they keep it from reacting with the organic matter.

i'm pretty sure it's the first answer.

if they do add it i guess it would be to stop it going rancid. i would have thought that 1% diluted by 1000 would not be enough to kill the microbes - if you used a tablespoon/gallon it would be 0.015%

p.s. welcome to the board JAHWORKS - and good catch!

i guess pasteurizing would only sterilise whereas chlorine present would prevent it going off for longer?

im just guessing though!

All kelp products contain chlorine. Kelp also contains aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, titanium, et al.

No big deal.

Hey Jah, Maxicrop seaweed is certified by the soil association as organic, they are trustworthy. Maxi themselves say this
"Maxicrop has a direct effect on the soil flora and fauna by encouraging beneficial microbes to release more nutrients and growth stimulating compounds that favour stronger root growth".
I'm sure it's safe.

Seaweed comes from the ocean. It grows on salt water. Salt water contains lots of chlorides (chlorine). Use your Maxicrop. It's great stuff.
