What's new

I finally got a 1000W Quantum ballast

I've been wanting one of these for a while now and I finally got one tonight. I've been using their 600 watt for a few months in my DR120 tent but I wanted more wattage. I'm stoked! I can't wait to see what kind of difference it will make for yield in this tent. I have the tent pretty full with 7 plants and I didn't think they'd fill out much down low with the 600 watt. I hope this makes a difference. :woohoo: I got it for $320 brand new. I also got a Hortilux Super HPS bulb to go along with it for $72. :friends:

Nobody cares huh?

Well I've never actually had a 1000 watt light so I'm excited about it. I just hope that I can keep it far enough away from my plants in this tent. I have 2 that are almost at the limit and if they get any taller I might have to run this thing at 750 watts. :fsu:

I got 2 1k's in 2 different tents and use a 4 inch and 6 inch vortex to air cool them and exhaust outside. I can keep my 1k about 16 inches from the tops and generally no problem 20 inches if they are light sensitive strains....

Hope you run air cooled hoods.

I care probably as much as anyone here does about some guy they don't know getting a light. More even. <hugz>

Oh...and just bend the plants to fit under the 1k.

quantum's are the sh!t. slowly replacing my other digitals with them. $320 is really expensive though, they are $100 cheaper here in the bay area...

40AmpstoFreedom, I do have the hood air cooled. It's a Super Sun 2 hooked to an 8" can fan, it then goes into my Can 66 outside of the tent. The 8" can fan and the Can 66 are both outside the tent. When you have your lights that close can you feel the heat on the back of your hand at the tops of the plants? Because I had this that close at first and I could feel some heat so I raised the light, but it wasn't burning or anything. I think I have it at 19"-20" above right this minute. It's only been running for like 8 hours since I installed it so I'm still trying to figure out where to have it for sure.

Alienate420, :moon::laughing: Just kidding... I had to bend a plant last time using a 600 in here because it got about 7' tall, but I only had 3 plants in here at the time so I had a lot more room. But if I have to this time I'll try it again.

krunchbubble, where are you getting them that cheap??? Please let me know. Does the place sell online? I can't believe someone is selling these that cheap. :wallbash: The cheapest I have seen them online was about what I paid for this after paying for the shipping. I paid $250 for my 600. Edit: hey krunchbubble I just read a post of yours in another thread saying "my boy owns a hydro shop". Is that why you're getting those so cheap? Thanks.

Growco has them, that's where I've bought both of mine. click

When I plugged it in my plants creamed themselves...

I haven't heard of one problem with these at all. Jay at Growco speaks extremely highly of them. I don't know if that means anything to you, but he said he hasn't had one come back yet. Unlike the Lumateks. He claims he's had tons of Lumateks come back but no Quantums so far. I know Lumatek had some issues with bulbs or something but whatever. I'm glad I got the Quantums. And I plan on buying another 1000 when I get the cash.

I've got 5 of those, they rock. Don't use Hortilux bulbs in them though, I burned up 3 of them in the first 10 weeks of use (!) Use Ushio bulbs when your EYE burns out.

I haven't used this 1000 for 10 weeks yet, but I used the 600 longer than that and never had any problems with it. I even had the ballast set on 50% part of the time when the light came on and it never hurt the bulb, but I've read since I did that not to do that. I was worried about it killing the bulb, firing it up on 50%-75%, but it didn't say not to do that in the instructions I got with that 600 or anything so I didn't know if it would hurt it or not. And now I don't even remember where I read that, it might have been for the new dimmable Lumatek's too that it said not to do that, I don't remember.
